Campaign Overview

• The 2020 Climate Action Campaign is an exclusive opportunity for GlobalGiving partners working on climate action to participate in a five-day matching campaign and compete for five year-long slots in the GlobalGiving Climate Action Fund.
  • GlobalGiving launched the Climate Action Fund in 2019. It consists of hundreds of donors, recurring and one-time, committed to supporting local climate champions in the fight to protect our planet’s resources and biodiversity, spread environmental justice, and raise awareness in the face of climate change.
  • For one year, the 2020 Climate Action Fund cohort will receive funding on a monthly basis to power their earth-saving work. Winners can each expect to receive $10,000 or more total from their 12 months in the fund.
• The only way to get into the fund is to participate in the campaign!
• The Climate Action Campaign runs from 00:00:00 ET on Monday, April 20, to 23:59:59 ET on Friday, April 24, and, throughout the week, all eligible donations up to $500 will be matched at 50%.
• The campaign is centered around the 50th anniversary of Earth Day which falls on Wednesday, April 22.
• To be considered for the 2020 Climate Action Campaign, submit an application by March 27, 2020.
• Fund Selection Process: The five members of the 2020 Climate Action Fund cohort will be selected from the top 10 projects with the most unique donors in the Climate Action Campaign.
  • The two organizations with the most unique donors in the campaign will automatically win the first two spots.
  • The final three spots will be selected from the remaining organizations in the Top 10 on the campaign leaderboard in terms of most unique donors in a peer-led selection process immediately following the campaign. All campaign participants will have the chance to cast one ballot per organization to decide the final cohort winners.
  • Note: In the event that there’s a tie for most unique donors, ranking will be determined by most funds raised during the campaign.
• The important dates are as follows:
  • Application Submission Deadline: Friday, March 27, at 17:00:00 ET
  • Campaign Virtual Training Week: April 6-10 (UPDATE: Postponed due to COVID-19. GlobalGiving will provide an update to participants asap.)
  • Crowdfunding Campaign: Monday, April 20, at 00:00:00 ET to Friday, April 24, at 23:59:59 ET
  • Peer Voting: April 27 - May 1
  • Winner Announcement: Thursday, May 7

Campaign Eligibility

• To be considered for the 2020 Climate Action Campaign, organizations must submit an application by Friday, March 27, 2020, at 17:00:00 ET. A timely submission is required, but does not guarantee, your inclusion in the campaign.
• GlobalGiving will notify all applicants by Friday, April 3, whether their application has been accepted. If rejected, resubmissions will not be considered.
• GlobalGiving will consider the following to determine campaign eligibility:
  • Organizational Eligibility: Organizations must the GlobalGiving status of Partner, Leader, or Superstar and be banked outside of India to be considered for the Climate Action Campaign. Emerging organizations are not eligible.
  • Project Eligibility: Organizations can submit no more than one project to participate in the campaign. The status of the submitted project must be ‘Active’ (not Draft, Pre-approved, Funded, Unsearchable, or Retired) and visible on www.globalgiving.org. Microprojects and GlobalGiving sponsored projects and funds are not eligible to participate. At least one of the “themes” for the submitted project should be “Climate Change”.
  • Project Focus: Projects accepted into this campaign will demonstrate a community-led approach to environmental protection and climate resilience. All combined, the projects in this campaign will demonstrate that there are an abundance of solutions to global climate crisis and create mosaic of climate hope.
• GlobalGiving maintains final authority to determine campaign inclusion.

Matching: One-Time Gifts

• During the Climate Action Campaign, all eligible donations up to $500 per unique donor will be matched at 50% for all five days the campaign is live.
  • Example 1: A donation of $100 USD will receive a $50 USD match
  • Example 2: A donation of $1,000 USD will receive a $250 USD match.
• To ensure all participants have a fair chance to compete, organizations will be capped at $3,000 in matching funds.
• Unique donors are determined using numerous criteria, including name, email address, credit card number, mailing address, and IP address. We are monitoring these and other parameters in our system to ensure that only distinct donors are counted.
• For the purposes of calculating matching amounts, donations made in other currencies will be converted to USD. The exchange rate will be estimated at the time of the donation, but may be subject to change until the donation settles with the donor’s bank or credit card. Funds will be disbursed using the exchange rate based on the settlement value of each transaction.
• GlobalGiving reserves the right to make final decisions on all matters concerning the allocation of matching funds.

Matching: Monthly Gifts

• New monthly donations up to $200 per donor per project started during this campaign will get an additional 100% match on their initial donation as long as it remains active for a minimum of four payments. That means a total of 150% match on their donation!
• GlobalGiving is offering this 100% Monthly Match every day in 2020. Download the accompanying graphics!
• Please note, monthly donations started by project leaders or staff of the recipient project or organization are not eligible for the 100% Monthly Match.

Donation Eligibility + Disbursement

• Only donations made by unique donors per project will qualify towards winning a slot in the Climate Fund.
• Eligible Donation Methods: Debit card, credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, and individually purchased gift cards, and mobile donations through M-Changa equivalent to 5 USD or greater.
  • Online donations must be made by the account or credit card holder.
• Ineligible Donation Methods: Cash, check, wire, text-to-give, CAF check, CAF online, donations made by JustGiving, corporate gift card redemptions, and donations made on any other GlobalGiving corporate or organizational giving sites, or organizational-level giving.
• GlobalGiving will monitor and review all donations made through this campaign.
• All donations are final. GlobalGiving cannot change the time, date, or status of a donation after it is processed for any reason.
• GlobalGiving maintains the right to make a final decision on all matters concerning the final results of the GlobalGiving Climate Action Campaign.
• The exchange rate for donations made in currencies other than USD will be estimated at the time of the donation, but may be subject to change until the donation settles with the donor’s bank or credit card. Funds will be disbursed using the exchange rate based on the settlement value of each transaction.
• Disbursement of funds raised and awarded in this campaign will be included in the usual monthly disbursement process.

Tax Efficient Giving & Fulfillment Fee

• Tax Efficiency: GlobalGiving is a registered nonprofit charity in the United States and England and Wales. Donations made by eligible donors in the United States can be claimed as tax deductible contributions on United States tax returns. Donations made by eligible donors in the United Kingdom can claim Gift Aid (an extra 25% added to eligible donations by the UK Government) when they donate in GBP.
• Fulfillment Fee: GlobalGiving charges a minimal nonprofit support fee, plus a 3% processing fee. For US and UK registered organizations the nonprofit support fee is 5%. Organizations outside the US and UK will be charged a 7% nonprofit support fee. During the campaign, the fee only applies to the initial donation and not to prize funds earned. The fee helps cover the costs we incur to promote your organization and projects, to provide you with fundraising training and tools, and to maintain and improve our online technology in order to keep you connecting with new donors.
