Offsets are activities that reduce emissions of CO2 or work to decrease the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. CO2 emission is known as one of the main causes of climate change. Aid for Social Protection Foundation Vietnam (AFV) is starting a unique carbon offset project - planting trees in schools, communities and highland areas where huge areas of sloping land are vacant, after people have stopped shifting cultivation.
In 2017, Vietnam ranked 6th out of 10 countries that were most affected by climate change. Beyond the impact on livelihoods, extreme weather also destroyed millions of homes and furthered the inequalities and lack of rights that are among the root causes of poverty. As a country significantly damaged by war, the country's forests have now been further degraded or in some cases destroyed to the point where almost no untouched primary forest remains.
We aim to plant 1,000,000 forest trees and fruit trees in 3 provinces most affected by climate change during 2019-2021. By sponsoring a tree, you will be giving us valuable support as we work towards the re-growing of our farm and forest, while at the same time, you will be joining us in cutting greenhouse gas emissions, promoting sustainable development and combating climate change. Your support will be used for activities that benefit the entire community, especially women and children.
Trees absorb CO2 when they grow, so they remove CO2 from the atmosphere and thus start repairing the damage done by mankind. The trees you send to our community will provide alternative livelihoods with sustainable income for 1,000 villagers as the they can harvest fruits or wood for sale. The villages will spread the word that trees will enhance their outcomes of their farming and forest land and the next generations will continue to see the positive effects and will therefore plant more trees.
