The current isolation, due to the global sanitary situation, affects families that live in informal settlements, so currently, they don't have the economic resources to buy enough food. Within the initiative "Reaping Life" and Health. we intend to address this problem through the creation of urban gardens at 200 households in an informal settlement. We can provide a basic guide to build them using easily accessible materials, and guidance by telephone for harvesting.
Current isolation affects families living in informal settlements since their livelihood depends on daily work (generally informal), so they currently do not have the necessary economic resources to stock up on food, in addition, availability of market points is quite limited. Therefore, we, as TECHO, recognize that the food security of these families is in danger. The initiative aims to address the problem of food insecurity informal settlements.
TECHO will mitigate their food shortages by 40% and strengthen their community self-supply capacities by 60%. We have grassroots work in the community , and made up a volunteer team who will design and implement the strategy. In addition, the community's leaders will (i) stimulate the communication between TECHO and the beneficiary families, (ii) carry out the necessary activities in their neighborhoods, and (iii) monitor the progress to provide constant feedback to TECHO.
TECHO is working to provide the tools to the inhabitants of the settlement so that they become transforming actors of their territory, through the implementation of the project "Reaping Life and Health". We want to empower the community members; therefore, they would be less impacted by the current situation, and they could ensure the food for their families. Some of them have previous knowledge on agricultural practices because they come from rural areas where they used to work in farms. Thus
