Taiwan is one of the countries at high risk of disasters such as earthquakes, typhoons, and floods. The Mustard Seed Mission devotes to build a community disaster prevention support network that promotes disaster prevention knowledge, conducts drills and training to community people in order to build a resilient community to minimize disasters damages. Since 2021, disaster preparedness storage hubs for disaster-prone remote tribal communities are built to achieve disaster preparedness.
Taiwan's natural environment is fragile. Potential natural disasters in Taiwan are flooding, seawater flooding, landslides, earth and rockfall, formation subsidence, coastal erosion, and earthquakes, etc. In recent years, under the impact of global climate change, Taiwan has increased the risk of natural disasters and the damages of natural disasters have become larger and larger. We must face up to the issue of disaster prevention and actively advocate it to the community.
The plan includes 1. Community disaster prevention activities: raise the community's awareness of disaster prevention, self-protection, and awareness of disasters; 2. Train volunteers: lead community people to better understand their community disaster risks and responses, and understand mutual assistance and self-help Importance; 3. Organize teams: carry out initiatives and drills for community residents. 4. Set up disaster preparedness storage hubs for disaster-prone tribal communities.
In 2023, it is estimated that 84 disaster prevention workshops will be held throughout Taiwan, and disaster prevention activities will be held in 28 rural elementary schools. 84 disaster prevention education sessions are expected to be conducted all over Taiwan, which is expected to benefit 2,520 people. Set up disaster preparedness food storage points in seven disaster-prone hometowns in Taiwan, and regularly replace the supplies every year and it is expected to serve a total of 1,400 people.
