Children and schools remain important parts of community preparedness during the continuing Ebola emergency.
Development Alert continues promoting age-appropriate awareness around hand hygiene, early reporting, responsible health information and stigma reduction.
Teachers, parents and caregivers can help children understand simple protective practices without creating unnecessary fear. Children can also become positive messengers by sharing appropriate health information with their families.
With the DRC continuing to report thousands of confirmed Ebola cases, maintaining health education remains important even when transmission declines in some locations.
We also encourage communities to ensure that children from affected households are treated with dignity and compassion rather than stigma.
Protecting children means protecting their health, their education and the families and communities around them.
