Equipping Schools for Ebola Prevention

By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader

Equipping Schools to Become Centers of Ebola Prevention

Dear friend,

As Ugandan communities continue responding to the Ebola outbreak, schools remain an important setting for disease prevention and health education. With support from our generous donors, schools in high-risk districts and border communities are strengthening infection prevention practices while empowering students to become ambassadors for healthy behaviors.

Teachers are working closely with health educators and community volunteers to integrate Ebola awareness into school activities. Students are learning about the importance of regular handwashing, recognizing early warning signs of illness, avoiding contact with bodily fluids, and reporting suspected symptoms to trusted adults. Handwashing stations positioned at school entrances are encouraging good hygiene throughout the day, while school health clubs are reinforcing these messages through peer-to-peer learning.

Parents are also benefiting from these efforts. Children frequently share what they learn at school with their families, helping spread accurate health information into surrounding communities. This ripple effect is strengthening awareness far beyond the classroom.

Despite the challenges posed by the outbreak, schools continue to demonstrate remarkable commitment to protecting learners and staff while supporting national prevention efforts.

Your generosity is helping create safer learning environments where education and health go hand in hand. Every school equipped with knowledge, hygiene facilities, and prevention messages contributes to stronger community resilience and a more informed generation capable of helping prevent future outbreaks.
