The geographical expansion of Ebola in the DRC demonstrates why community preparedness must extend beyond established outbreak centres.
The latest data show that 63 of the DRC's 167 health zones across seven provinces are currently affected. Recent cases have continued to be reported in Ituri, North Kivu, Haut-Uélé, Bas-Uélé and Tshopo, while South Kivu and Sud-Ubangi are also among the affected provinces.
Development Alert continues encouraging communities to remain alert regardless of whether they are located near a major treatment centre.
Our community-focused approach emphasizes hygiene, accurate health information, early reporting and cooperation with response teams.
Reaching rural and underserved populations is especially important because distance, limited services and information gaps can delay access to appropriate healthcare.
We continue working to ensure that communities understand that preparedness is not about creating fear. It is about helping people recognize risks and respond responsibly.
Every informed community becomes an important partner in preventing further transmission.
