Uganda's successful containment of Ebola remains an important achievement.
The country recorded 20 confirmed cases during its 2026 outbreak and subsequently completed the required 42-day period without a new confirmed case.
However, the DRC continues to face a major outbreak, with 7,475 confirmed cases and 3,605 deaths as of 16 September.
This regional situation means Uganda's preparedness must remain active, particularly among communities connected to the DRC.
Development Alert continues supporting community awareness, cross-border preparedness, hygiene, early reporting, surveillance and communication with health structures.
WHO continues assessing the risk to countries sharing land borders with the DRC as high, reinforcing the importance of continued preparedness.
Our goal is to protect the progress Uganda has achieved while supporting stronger preparedness among vulnerable communities.
