Strengthening Infection Prevention in Rural Health Facilities
Dear Friend,
As Uganda continues responding to an Ebola outbreak with 20 confirmed cases, rural health facilities remain on the front lines of protecting communities. Many patients first seek care at nearby health centers, making these facilities critical for early detection, infection prevention, and timely referral. Thanks to your generous support, infection prevention efforts in rural clinics are being strengthened to help safeguard both healthcare workers and patients.
Healthcare teams continue receiving refresher training on infection prevention and control, including proper hand hygiene, patient triage, environmental cleaning, and the safe management of suspected Ebola cases. Health facility managers are also reinforcing routine screening procedures at outpatient departments so that patients with compatible symptoms can be identified quickly and referred appropriately.
Communities are benefiting from improved confidence in their local health facilities. Patients are encouraged to seek care early because they know health workers are better prepared to recognize symptoms and follow established safety procedures. This early engagement is essential for limiting transmission and ensuring prompt medical attention.
The collaboration between healthcare workers, Village Health Teams, and district response teams continues to strengthen referral pathways and improve communication between facilities. These coordinated efforts are helping create a safer healthcare environment while maintaining essential medical services for other illnesses.
Your support is making a lasting difference by strengthening local health systems that protect thousands of families every day. Together, we are helping rural health facilities remain prepared, resilient, and capable of responding effectively throughout the Ebola outbreak.
