Sustaining Momentum for Community safety

By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader

Dear Friend,

Thank you so much for the sustaining momentum to ensure every community is protected against Ebola.

Although Uganda has made important progress in responding to the Ebola outbreak, the confirmation of 20 cases reminds us that sustained vigilance remains critical. Thanks to your continued generosity, response activities are maintaining momentum across affected districts and border communities, ensuring that prevention efforts remain active until the outbreak is fully contained.

Health workers, Village Health Teams, community volunteers, and local leaders continue collaborating to strengthen surveillance, promote hygiene, support contact tracing, and encourage early reporting of suspected illnesses. Schools remain active in health education, markets continue reinforcing handwashing practices, and transport operators are supporting awareness campaigns that reach thousands of travelers every week.

Cross-border collaboration with neighboring communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo also remains a priority. Regular communication between local authorities, health officials, and community organizations is helping strengthen preparedness and ensure that prevention messages remain consistent on both sides of the border. These coordinated efforts are reducing transmission risks while improving the region's overall capacity to respond to infectious disease threats.

Perhaps the greatest achievement has been the resilience demonstrated by communities themselves. Families are embracing healthier practices, supporting vulnerable neighbors, and working alongside response teams with renewed confidence and determination. This growing sense of solidarity is becoming one of the strongest assets in the fight against Ebola.

Your support continues to inspire hope where it is needed most. Together, we are helping communities remain vigilant, strengthening local health systems, and moving steadily toward the shared goal of ending the outbreak while creating healthier and more resilient communities for the future.
