ASHRAYA NEELBAGH SCHOOL

RAYALPAD, KOLAR DISTRICT, KARNATAKA

REPORT FOR THE QUARTER JANUARY 2016 TO MARCH 2016.

January- 2016- The students at Neelbagh School brought in the New Year with a New Year party on New Year’s Eve. The students presented a cultural programme and a special lunch was enjoyed by all.

The Class X students started their preparations for the Board exams which are conducted in April 2016. The students have 3 preparatory exams at different levels- school, district and State to get them accustomed to the type of question paper formats, how to space their time so that they can complete the papers without stress.

The monthly sports competition was organized on 23^rdof this month. In the Volley ball competition held for boys yellow house stood first and in the Throw ball held for girls Greenhouse came first. The folk songs competition was organized on 26^thof this month for the groups in the school. In the junior section red house won 1^st place, Green house 2^nd place and in senior group Yellow 1^st place and Green 2^nd place.

On the 07^th of this month cultural programmes were performed by students of class 7^thduring the morning assembly. The drama, songs and dances were appreciated by one and all.

On 26^th of this month Republic day was celebrated. Karan Misra, a volunteer from Canada hoisted the national flag; the students organised cultural programmes for the occasion.

Karnataka State Govt. - Chief Minister’s Function

On the 8^th of this month, 2 Class X, SSLC Students, Girish Babu and Nagendra Babu who achieved the distinction of being Kolar district toppers in the State Board Exams in April 2015were honoured by the State Government at a special function and felicitated personally by the Chief Minister of the State; the students were given a certificate, a trophy, wrist watch and Twenty thousand cash award. Karnataka Chief Minister Mr. Siddaramaiah, Education minister Mr.Kageri and 10 ministers attended the function. The Chief Minister congratulated the School students, management and staff on their impressive performance.

February 2016

This month was a busy month at Neelbagh:

Monthly cultural and sports events were conducted. Basketball competition for the boys and Kho Kho for the girls; a fancy dress competition for different groups of students and prizes were distributed for the winners in all the events.

Career guidance Workshop

On 18^th&19^th of this month Mrs. Mamata Mutt (Corporate Trainer) conducted a career guidance workshop for the school leaving 10^th class students. She talked about different college and vocational courses available to the students; group and individual counselling with each student and the parent was also done to explore potential, interest and aptitude of each student.

Visitors

Mrs. Philomena Lobo IAS (Director Secondary Education Department of Public Education) visited School on 11^th of this month. She was very happy with the achievements of the students and staff.

Teachers and 10th grade students training workshop

Teachers and 10th grade students training workshop was conducted by Poornaprajna Institute of Faculty Improvement on 27th of this month. The workshop Modules explained were time management in writing exams, facts ofemotional intelligence and how to face board exams.

Dance and Theatre workshop

Students from 5^thto 9^th grade were encouraged to participate in this workshop. It was a source of fun and entertainment for the children. This workshop was conducted by Mr.Anand on 28^th and 29th of this month. The students a few folk dances.

Volunteer

Mr. Karan Joy Misra volunteered as an English teacher for secondary school and stayed at the school for a period of 5 weeks, starting from the 15th January to 28^th February 2016. He taught the students spoken English and helped them with the subject; he also played games and sports with the children.

March 2016

This is the end f the academic year at Neelbagh- the Class X students start their Board exams and the rest of the students get ready for the summer break. The school closes for the summer holidays from March 15 to May 15 2016.

The monthly sports competition and quiz competitions were organised.

Class X students Fare well function:

The Fare well function for the 12^th batch of Class X students was held on the 03rd of this month. Mr. Thopalli Narayanaswami (Kolar Zilla Panchayat President) was Chief Guest. Ms. Shanthi Chacko, Ms. Dechu Banerjee and Ms. Leena Thomas (Project in charge BOSCH) were the guests. The students presented a colourful cultural programme. The Class X students spoke about their experiences studying in Neelbagh School .Conduct certificates were distributed to the Class X students.

BOSCH Programme

On the 22^nd of this month Boschorganised an exhibition of science and vocational training activities and the students displayed Science models, Carpentry, craft and tailoring items. Two students talked about the School.

Celebration time with more activities

Report for the quarter October to December 2015

Ashraya Neelbagh School ,Rayalpad, Kolar District Karnataka

October – As it is the season for festivals in India the School is closed from the 14^th of October till the end of the month so that the students can spend the time with their families.

Prior to closing the Parent teachers meeting was held. Parents met the subject teachers- the high school teachers discussed the students strengths and weaknesses and the measures they are taking to offer remedial support. All other parents had a general discussion with the teachers regarding their children’s overall progress.

On October 1^st a painting competition was conducted to commemorate World Elder’s Day- the students were sensitized on the changing scenario in India for the elderly and simple communication tips were shared with them to improve intergeneration bonding.

Sports and cultural activities were conducted as inter house competitions- kabbadi and soft ball and skit and prizes were given.

November –The students and staff returned from their break .

Academics- a review of the preparations for the Board exams for the Class X students was done with the teachers and strategy to focus on the Board exams preparations was decided.

November 1^st was celebrated as State Hood day and November 14^th as Children ‘s day. Students planned a short cultural program.

One of Neelbagh’s corporate donors invited over 200 students to participate in the CSR cultural program where the employees of the company showcased their talents. The students enjoyed the wide variety of performances.

The staff from Azim Premji School for Migrant workers visited Neelbagh School to see how the school was being run and to share and exchange ideas.

We are happy to report that the School had a large

December - Apart form the regular sports and cultural activities the students participated in the On 12th of Saturday the Inter schools Sports meet competitions were held in Prabodhana for educational institutions in GE Campus, Bangalore. Our students performed remarkably well getting the 1^st place in more than 18 events out of 20 the GE Sports Championship events and winning Overallteam GE Championship award.

Saalumarada Thimmakka visit,

0n 12^th of December Saalumarada Thimmakka Neelbagh School .Saalumarada Thimmakka is 106 years old. She is an Indian environmentalist from the state of Karnataka, noted for her work in planting and tending to 1384 banyan trees along a four-kilometre stretch of highway between Hulikal and Kudur. Saalumarada Thimmakka was relatively unknown, until she received the National Citizens Award in 1996. A film was made on her life.

Report for July, August and September 2015

The students have settled into the new academic year and classes have begun in earnest. Along with the academics the students have also participated in the various Sports and cultural programs.

Sports:

In July Kabaddi competition was organized for the boys and throw ball for the girls. Students from different houses won prizes.

The students also participated in the Hobli level games competitions and both primary and high school students qualified to participate in the Taluk level games in the following events- 100 mts, 200mts., 400 mts. relay; shuttle cock; cricket, basketball and yoga.

In August the students participated in the Taluk level sports competitions and both boys and girls qualified to participate at the District level games in the following events 100 mts, 200mts., and 400mts., shuttle cock and Yoga.

CELEBRATIONS:

Annual day:

In the month of August traditionally Annual Day is celebrated at Neelbagh. On this occasion visitors, students and parents are present and prizes for academics, sports and other achievements are distributed; an exhibition of all the talent of the students is showcased through the cultural program and the exhibition. On display are various science and math models; hand craft from the vocational training- carpentry, embroidery, and craft are also displayed. This is an opportunity for the parents and visitors to see first hand the variety of activities the students are exposed to.

This year Mr. K. K. Lakhani, the Executive Leader of AXA Technologies was the Chief Guest . The program was a great success.

Independence Day was also celebrated . After the flag hoisting by the students and staff the children had a cultural program and sweets were distributed. The local Panchayat President – Mr. Amarayana was the Chief Guest.

Teachers’ Day was celebrated on the 5^th of September. The students entertained both the teaching and non teaching staff with a variety entertainment program.

Neelbagh Students participated in a Science Fair hosted by GE volunteers of the Bangalore Chapter ; they organized Prabodhana- 14^th Annual Science Fair at GE India Technology Centre, Bangalore. Over 500 students from 17 Govt. and 12 NGO funded schools displayed their working models on “ Vision 2020- tribute to Dr. A Kalam” Neelbagh School received the 2^nd prize for their project “Education and Healthcare directed towards illiteracy, social security and overall health for the population”. The prize was a projector.

WORKSHOPS FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS.

In the month of July both teachers and students of Class X attended a workshop conducted by Poornaprajna Institute of Faculty Improvement - Applying English Language various modules were introduced on how to improve communication, listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading etc .

In August the teachers had a workshop conducted by the same Institute on “Applying theory of multiple Intelligence to teaching and learning and Disciplining with dignity.

Water Crisis :

The challenges with water mentioned during the last quarter was addressed by the local district administration who funded the digging of a new bore well. We are very grateful for the continuing support.

The students are looking forward to the Dusehra holidays after the first semester exams.
