Neelbagh residential school, located in rural Karnataka, provides affordable, quality education to the poorest of the poor, children of migrant construction workers and poor farmers.
During our work with construction workers in the site creches, we found that due to the nature of their work, the construction workers' families are not able to settle in one place. Thus, the education of their children suffers. Many of the construction workers are willing and are interested in providing their children with education but are unable to do so because of their lack of stability.
Neelbagh School provides residential facilities and quality, formal education to children of migrant labourers. Most of the resident students at Neelbagh are children of migrant construction workers, who are now able to get the education that they deserve.
Support to the education of first generation learners, through the Neelbagh school or through the site creches, will trigger long term dynamics since parents will clearly see how important it is to provide basic education to their children.Prevents early marriage of girls as they are encouraged to pursue higher education after completing 10th schooling at Neelbagh.
