Neelbagh School's Excellent Academic performance for the year 2014-2015

Neelbagh School Activities

Ashraya Neelbagh School – (April to June 2015)

Academic Performance:-

Neelbagh School reopened on May 15^th 2015 after the summer break.

Class X students of Ashraya Neelbagh School performed exceptionally in their SSLC Examinations and bagged 100% results for the 7th consecutive year and third time in a row with 100% first class.

While all 30 students, who appeared for the examination, were successful and secured first class marks, 11 students bagged Distinction, 8 scored in the 80’s and 9 scored in the 70’s

Girish topped with 97% , followed by Nagendrababu with 96%.

The staff and students were elated with the results given the syllabus for the Board exams had been changed earlier in the year and the students and teachers had to work exceptionally hard to overcome the challenges of the new syllabus.

Admission:-

As it is the beginning of the new academic year admissions to LKG was completed. A total of 35 new students were admitted- 16 girls and 19 boys .

Total strength – 381 children - 191 boys and 190 girls; 100 students in the hostel.

New Staff Appointment :-

Four new teachers were also appointed.

All other activities will follow according to the yearly schedule that is set for them.

Teachers Training Workshop :-

Poornaprajna Institute of Faculty Improvement is conducting a series of teachers training workshops in the coming year. The first such workshop on Maths and Science was conducted on 19^thand 20^th of June 2015. The goal of this workshop is to provide motivation and encouragement, introduce a variety of models, which will provide support for Maths and Science teachers who want to explore ways of changing how they teach science & Maths.

Ashraya Neelbagh School - (Jan to March 2015)

Academics:

The New Year was warmly welcomed by students of Neelbagh with enthusiasm and gaiety; a lovely campfire and a variety entertainment program was accompanied by a delicious meal. Everyone enjoyed the day, a rare occasion for all to say thank you for all that has been and a fiat for all that will be.

The first preparatory examinations, for the 11th batch of SSLC students were held during the month of January from 8^th to 14^th . The second preparatory examination were held from 9^th – 14^th February 2015. All the students have shown considerable progress in their studies as they are gearing up for the public board examination, which is scheduled to commence from 30th March and will conclude on the 14th of April 2015. The monthly tests for class 1 -9 are conducted regularly.

Sports Competitions:

24^th January 2015: The monthly sports competition was organized. In the Volley ball competition held for boys Yellow house stood first and in the Throw ball held for girls Greenhouse stood first.

16^th February 2015: The monthly sports competition was organized. In the basketball competition held for boys, Green house stood first and in the Kho-Kho held for girls Blue house stood first.

5^th March 2015: Quiz competition was organized for Juniors and Seniors. In the junior section Green house won 1^st place, Yellow house won second place and in senior group Red house came 1^st and Blue 2^nd place.

Cultural events:

31st December 2014: On New Year’s Eve the school had special cultural programs and students performed splendidly.

24th January 2015: The folk songs competition was organized and in the junior section Red won 1^st place, Green 2^nd place and in senior section Yellow won 1^st place and Green 2^nd place.

21^st February 2015: The fancy dress competition was organized and in the junior section Yellow won 1^st place, Green 2^nd place and in senior section Blue won 1^st place and Green 2^nd place.

Other Events:

26th January 2015: Republic day was celebrated. The Headmaster hoisted and saluted the National flag. Students were briefed about the significance of Republic Day.

13th March 2013:The Farewell function for students of class 10th was organized and Mr. Raghunatha (Poet, writer and Social worker) was the Chief Guest. He motivated the students to do well in their future as they were fortunate to receive their education in Neelbagh with all the facilities provided by Ashraya. Conduct Certificates were handed out to all 10^th class students. Ms. Shanthi Chacko, Mrs. Dechu Banerjee and Mr. Manjunath, the Head Master counseled the parents and the 10^th grade students on choosing the right career path and encouraged the parents of all the girl children to support their daughters through their college education.

Workshops:

Career guidance Workshop

Career guidance plays a very important role in the lives of all individuals, as it helps in setting future goals and enables choice of careers. Career guidance is a much needed service for those children who do not plan for their future at an early stage; more should be done to assist the younger generations in personal career development. When high school students have a clear understanding of the best career choices for them, the end result is better planning, more college enrollments, and a more productive society for the future. To facilitate this on 19th and 20th of January Mrs. Mamata Mutt (Corporate Trainer) conducted a career guidance workshop for 10th and 9th Grade (around 60) students along with their parents / Guardians at Ashraya Neelbagh School. The aim was to help every individual student understand the importance of one’s academic potential, attributes, personality, talents, interest, expectation, resource, strength and weakness while choosing a course of study for a suitable career at the right time for a bright future.

In this workshop students were made to understand different career opportunities, process and procedure to prepare for those careers, different competitive exams, and the importance of setting goals and showing passion and hard work to achieve the desired goal.

Introduction activity: In this game we involved the students to make them aware about the importance of networking. Students were actively involved in this activity and they understood the basic theme of the activity. This activity helped facilitators to build a rapport with the participants and also get active attention from them.
Career Interest Test: As we explore career options, we should know what skills, talents and personality traits one brings to the table. This assessment helped students to understand and discover what they like and what they dislike, what they’re good at, and how well their interests and ability match up to different careers.
Printed Materials: After the session the printed reading material was provided to all participating students. It contained detailed information about of a variety of careers and different competitive exams.
Individual Career Guidance Interactive Session: This was the core part of the workshop, this session was mainly handled by Mrs. Mamata Mutt and she was accompanied by Mrs. Dechamma Bannerjee , Consultant - Ashraya, Headmaster and the 10th grade Class Teacher. The session was very interactive; students and their parents / guardians were very attentive and asked questions and clarified their doubts. In this session resource persons covered courses available for each stream in Arts, Science and Commerce. Many career options were also discussed.

Overall the workshop was constructive for the students. Activities and presentations were effective, students / parents interacted and gained much knowledge by clarifying their doubts with the resource persons.

Happy New Year from Neelbagh School

GE Inter NGO / Schools Sports Meet

Dear Friends and Supporters of Ashraya,

Happy New Year 2015 and we want to thank all the donors for their continuing support.

We are most appreciative of your interest to help us and be involved with our work.

I, Bhuvaneshwari student of 10th grade would like to share with you what is happening in my School -Neelbagh because it has been a very exciting quarter.

To start, we had long Dasara holidays and for people wondering what dasara is all about it is the Hindu god Rama's victory over the demon king Ravana and the triumph of good over evil. The School reopened on the 13th of October 2014.

Academic: This academic year the State Government has revised the syllabus for grade 10 Secondary School Leaving Certification (SSLC) students; textbooks have been revised based on the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus. This change has created ripples in the student and teacher community’s. My School has a track record of achieving Consecutively for the last 6 years, 100% results in the SSLC examination and for the last 2 years 100% first class. This has become an iconic school in the sector of rural education. We are considered to be one of the best Kannada medium schools in the State this year.

To ensure that my batch also carries forward the legacy, teachers and my batch mates are working hard.on 30^t^hSeptember, The Head-Master, Senior Teachers, Parents and the students of class had a meeting to discuss each student’s strength and weakness subject wise. The Parents were sensitized on the significance of Public Board Exams and were encouraged to motivate and support our education. The parents were requested not to employ children in field to augment the family income rather allow us to dedicate our time to studies. This interactive session motivated both the teachers and us to great extent. Special classes for 10th grade started from 27th October. We have both early morning and evening – after school sessions. A unique timetable has been prepared to ensure all subjects are covered. Day scholar (Boys -7 and Girls - 5) students will move into School Hostel by 5^th Jan 2015, so that they can concentrate and take advantage of remedial / special classes.

Events:

1. Rajyotsava: Statehood day was celebrated on 1st of November. Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated with great vigor and grandeur at our school. The program started with our State Anthem “Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujate” and it was followed by auspicious ‘lighting of lamp’ by the Head-master.The program continued with our Headmaster addressing the gathering in Kannada and enlightened everyone gathered with the importance of Kannada Rajyotsava. The Senior students (8th to 10th grade) researched and threw light on the Kannadigas who are honored with the prestigious Jnanapeeta Award. The fact that Kannada is the only Language to have won 8 Jnanapeetha Awards and it is the highest number won by an Indian language made the moment very proud.

The students of Grade VI & VII took the audience on a fascinating journey through the state of Karnataka by enacting some of its great and prominent personalities: Kitturu Rani Channamma, Akka Mahadevi, Kanaka Dasaru, Basavanna, Sangolli Rayanna.

Over all, the whole program was an educational journey and gave us the participating students an opportunity to showcase the antiquity of Kannada Culture, values and rich heritage of our state Karnataka.

2. Children’s Day: A day marking childhood, Children’s Day was celebrated on 14th November 2014. Our Teachers planned and put up a splendid cultural program that included – songs, dance and skit. We thoroughly enjoyed watching them act like children. It was fun.

3. Eye Camp: GE Company in association with Shankar Eye Hospital conducted a “Free Eye Screening Camp” on 3rd of December for all of us. All 376 students were individually examined by a group of Doctors. They also distributed free spectacles for needy students, which I’m sure will definitely impact their academic performance. It was a great sight to see Humanity in action without boundaries and selflessness.

4. Make a Wish: On 6th of December, 50 junior hostel students and 5 teachers participated in “Make a Wish children’s festival organized by a group of expats and NRI’s at Bangalore. They all received gifts exactly what they wished for, when their little wishes came true, it was an unbelievable experience to most of them. I also heard that the food was good and for most of them it was a memorable event.

5. GE Sports Championship award: On 13th of December the Inter schools Sports meet was organized by GE at their campus in Bangalore. The performance of our School students was remarkable. They bagged the 1st place in more than 17 events and also won the Overall Team GE Championship Award – 2014. 25 students and 2 teachers participated in this event.

6. AWIM Regional Olympiad: On 21st of December my School secured First Runner –Up position in The Car jet Competition in AWIM Regional Olympiad 2014 held at Mathagondapalli Model School, Hosur organized by SAEINDIA Bangalore Section. The 5th and 6th grade students participated along with our Science teacher.

Exhibition of School handicrafts

As part of developing entrepreneurial skills, all students enrolled in our School are also introduced to different forms of vocational skills like tailoring, embroidery, pottery, carpentry and making of paper mache products. This has a dual effect; we become more confident and our parents in turn become more supportive as they notice skills in us. Not just that my School also believes that to develop thinking skills early is essential to our academic success and lifelong ability to solve problems. To ensure we learn and cultivate marketing skills, charity exhibitions are organized annually.

This year, it was organized at Ms. Jyothi Subaroa’s residence on 17th and 18th of October 2014 and at Mr. Anil Chinniah and Mrs. Shonali Chinniah’s residence on 21st of December 2014. Products made by us were displayed and a team of senior students helped in organizing the exhibition. We get to interact with many people interested in rural education and provide us a platform to talk about our School. This initiative also helps us (students) to be able to analyze information, make decisions, come up with creative ideas and solve problems - in essence, to think rationally and logically.

My School is unique and provides opportunities and facilities that no other school in my village provides. These opportunities are provided for a holistic learning and all round development of each and every student. We are at par with any city student.
