Making Ebola Prevention Services Accessible

By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader

Dear Donor,

Some of the communities most vulnerable to Ebola are also the most difficult to reach. Located far from major roads and healthcare facilities, many villages along the Uganda–DRC border require dedicated outreach to ensure they are not left behind during the response. Thanks to your continued generosity, Development Alert is extending lifesaving prevention services to these remote communities  through the use of the newly aquired Motorcyle -thanks to you generosity.

Using community volunteers and mobile outreach teams, we continue delivering Ebola awareness sessions, household education visits, surveillance support, and hygiene promotion activities to isolated villages. Community members are learning how to recognize Ebola symptoms, reduce transmission risks, and seek immediate medical attention whenever illness is suspected.

Schools, churches, fishing communities, and local gathering places have become important centers for sharing reliable public health information. Village leaders are actively supporting surveillance by encouraging residents to report suspected illnesses promptly and cooperate fully with health authorities.

The response from communities has been inspiring. Families are embracing preventive practices, maintaining public handwashing stations, and helping identify vulnerable households requiring additional support.

Your generosity is ensuring that geography does not determine who receives protection. Every remote village reached strengthens Uganda's Ebola response and reinforces the principle that every community—regardless of distance—deserves access to lifesaving health information, prevention services, and hope.
