Help Street Dogs in Dharamsala and Save Lives

Without you, Patch and Amiya, both survivors of hit and runs, would never have had a second chance at life and become BFFs. 

During the last 4 months (Nov - Feb) your donations and support have allowed us to do the following: 

• Sterilizations: 433
• Rabies Vaccinations: 457
• Rescues: 174
• Pet Cases: 136
• Treatments: 2099

• Adoptions: 1

• School Education Programs 3 (167 children)

Nothing makes us happier than teaching compassion and safety to a new generation in hopes of a better future! 

FOCUS ON INCREASING STERILIZATION 2023

The struggle to find trained vets who will not leave NGO work for government jobs is ongoing  - making it difficult to have a consistent spay/neuter program. 

To get more vet help, we approached Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS) to offer any vet who has completed their surgical certificate course the option to come volunteer at DAR and help us reach our goals. 

The response was incredibly positive and we were able to kick off the program in February. With the help of vet volunteers, our Dr. Shaheem was able to complete 100 sterilizations, along with 6 life-saving surgeries.

In exchange for their time, we offered to cover food and lodging. The cost for 2 vet volunteers each month is $250, a small price to help us save more lives! Please consider giving to help us prevent more unwanted puppies and reduce the suffering.

Along with vets who had just completed their surgical courses, we were lucky enough to host Dr. Sumanthe Bedre, a top vet who works for WVS.

This is his second time at DAR. He spent 3 weeks with us last May to run our sterilization training and camp. Now he came back to volunteer!

Frasier, Bindi, and Jaffa all was to thank you for your support over the last 4 months! 

Without you, none of them would have survived. Frasier would have died of maltreatment, Bindi from tick fever, and poor Jaffa from an untreated maggot wound. Today, they are healing and happy and looking forward to their next treat.

During the last 4 months (July - October) your donations and support have allowed us to do the following:

We ended October with a total of 729 sterilizations completed and we are determined, with your support, to hit our goal of 1000 by December 31st - the most we have ever done in a single year. 

In addition, we completed our 6th annual Rabies Vaccination and Awareness Camp! We went out into the community for 10 days straight and provided 1285 street dogs and pet their annual vaccine. In addition, we handed out fliers to educate people on what to do if they get bit by an unknown and unvaccinated dog. 

School Education Program Relaunch - Post Covid

Finally, in October, we were able to restart our Animal Buddies program in schools. 

Our education program has had a profound effect on our community. People in their mid-twenties today, who were kids when we first started over a decade ago, are our biggest supporters. Without you, this would not be possible. 

To launch our new program, we have been lucky enough to have one of our supporters, Julie Palais, write a book called Saathi, The Street Dog from Dharamsala, telling the story of a street dog who gets boiling water thrown on his back and needs to come to DAR for help. It is educational and inspirational. The children loved it and so did we!
