Dear Donor,
Uganda has successfully ended its 2026 Ebola outbreak, but the continuing outbreak in neighboring DRC means preparedness remains important.
WHO declared Uganda's outbreak over on 25 August 2026 after 42 days without a new confirmed case. A total of 20 confirmed cases had been recorded in Uganda during the outbreak.
Development Alert continues encouraging communities to maintain responsible hygiene, health awareness and early reporting practices.
The experience demonstrates the importance of preparedness even after an outbreak has ended. Cross-border movement, family connections and trade between communities mean that public health awareness cannot simply stop when national transmission is interrupted.
We therefore continue supporting messages that encourage communities to seek medical attention when necessary and cooperate with health authorities.
Protecting Uganda's progress requires continued vigilance, preparedness and informed communities.
