A Warm Smile and Thank You From Mbong

Mbong and her mother receiving funds
Mbong and her mother receiving funds

Dear Project Supporters

Mbong and her mother were delighted to receive funds you helped provide.  We finally have photos of Mbong with her mother receiving the funds. Photos also show her school and her younger sister.

Mbong and her mother are very grateful to YOU for helping to provide this scholarship. Your gift brought huge relief - ensuring that Mbong has the needed educational support.

The funds will be used to buy her text and exercise books for the academic year and to pay her school charges / cover school-related costs - uniforms etc.  Funds will also cover the cost of her breakfast for the rest of the academic year.  This will additionally support her transportation to school - as she lives far from the school

Thanks again for your kind support!  Together we made a difference - securing her education of another year.

Let's touch another life and do even more together: We would like to invite you to help provide a scholarship for another Cameroonian girl called Flora.  Flora needs our help to send her to school.  Read more and help send Flora to school.

With deep appreciation

With 22 kids, a dull moment is rare!

Regina, the birthday girl
Regina, the birthday girl

Dear Project partners

Every day brings some activity at the Dream Home.  With 22 kids, a dull moment is rare!

Here is a quick update on some of our activities.

The Dream Home children celebrated Regina's (youngest) 2nd birthday recently and had a birthday party.

The kids have had multiple visitors the past few weeks. Visitors included Aunty Ellen, Cecelia, Pastor Faith and Abdul, who challenged the children on the importance of education as the only sure means to succeed in life. The Home / children received gifts like six half-bags of rice, crayons and other items from these visitors.

The children have been working hard in their classes and recently went on a field trip with their school. Every year the Vickrays Community Primary School organizes a field trip as part of their school program. This is done with the notion that “All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy.” This activity usually takes place after the second term examination each school year.

Last year, there was no field trip due to the Ebola outbreak restrictions. Thankfully, this year, the kids of Dream Again Home were happy to attend this year’s field trip. Seventeen of the primary school children together with Regina, Dorcas, Haja, Mariama, the matron and her two daughters were also in attendance.

The kids had a great time at the trip. Hannah said, “It was a good day spent well with friends”. Florence commented, “I enjoyed the food and drinks”. Aminata said: "I like the view at Fellow Farm".

These children would simply not be able to celebrate birthdays or enjoy field trips at school - if it weren't for your support!  Thank you for helping them dream again!

We would like to invite you to come visit us at the Dream Home.  The kids would love to chat and play with you.  Should you be interested in visiting, please let us know.  We will make you real welcome!

Warmest Regards,

Develop Africa team

The kids now spend a longer time than before in the computer lab

Happy to learn!
Happy to learn!

Dear project partners,

In the previous report, we explained that we had started training the teachers at the school with the goal of having the teachers take over the training.

Two months ago, a teacher of FAWE school started handling the computer training.  We have done a lot of work to ensure the kids receive adequate lessons in computer.

At present classes four and five are receiving computer training.  Class six has been exempted, due to their pending external examination that will take place on the 7th of May 2016. Their computer classes will commence two weeks after their examination.

The kids have learnt how insert tables, format text, change font sizes, font colors and also to fill up tables with numbers.  They have also learned how to save and retrieve documents.

Because we now have a local teacher, the kids are now spending a longer time in the computer lab. Every lunch time is been seen as an opportunity to learn something new on the computer. They sometimes spend well over four hours in the computer lab. Computer training is now offered every day after school, as long as there is power.

The kids are very eager to learn and thanks to YOUR support, we are able to continue to provide this training to them.

The computers in the lab were purchased as used computers in 2011 and are overdue for replacement. We appreciate your support today - which would enable us to replace them with newer computers with updated programs.  Thanks for your support.

Warm regards
