Ladies Excitedly Start Computer Training

Dear project supporters

The new year is off to a great start and we have started computer training for the girls.

On Monday January 18th, classes started with an Introduction to Windows 10 video, system basics and practice sessions on learning to use a mouse and keyboard.  This was the first exposure to using a computer for most of them.  They were very excited with this opportunity.

We plan to set up additional computers in a 2nd room and offer several sessions weekly - so all the ladies will have a hands-on learning experience.

We are deeply grateful for your support that is helping us provide this training.  Access to this training will provide the ladies with the foundation that they need for their future careers.

Congratulations! 4 Set of Computer Training Graduates

Training of Trainers - one of FAWE teachers
Training of Trainers - one of FAWE teachers

Congratulations!  We have together helped to provide training for girls since November 2011.  This means 4 different set of graduates have benefited from this technology initiative.

The girls have learned a variety of tasks including the following:

  • Computer components / system basics
  • Word processing and text formatting
  • Researching online
  • Making identity cards

A new school year started a couple weeks ago and the girls were very happy to resume classes.  The girls have been steadily learning through the classes we continue to offer.  Lessons take place 3 times a week and include practical sessions.

Since we started offering classes over 4 years ago, the classes have been taught by an outside instructor, on contract.  Last year, we started offering classes (twice a week) to the school teachers, as they expressed a desire to learn as well.  This semester, we are continuing training of the Teachers to ensure they are fully competent.  At the end of this training, the teachers will take over and be responsible for the computer instruction.  Additionally, this is a great professional development benefit for the teachers.

We will continue to provide technical and operational support and explore opportunities with the teachers to further expand the training we are offering to the girls.  With your support, we also hope this year to replace computers and upgrade the office software.

Behind the Scenes: Most of the original computers and the furniture have been in use since the inception of the lab. Over the years we have replaced components on 8 computers (memory, motherboards etc.)  We have also had to repair desks / chairs and replace chairs.  Currently the lens in the project shows a red display when it is on for a long time (see photos).

We are so very excited about this opportunity to help prepare these girls for future positions of leadership.  We would appreciate your help in purchasing a replacement projector.  Thanks for your support!

Dear Project Supporters,

Thanks to the donation of books and school supplies by the general public and YOUR financial support, the kids at the CAPEC school in Cameroon are now happily learning.

The books and school supplies were donated by individuals globally. Shipping costs were covered by Develop Africa and GlobalGiving donors.

In this video, Kids Enjoy Reading and Using School Supplies in Cameroon, you can see the children in class enjoying the books and school supplies they received.

We are very excited that we are helping boost and support the education of the kids in tangible ways.

Thank YOU, for your continued support. Because of YOU, more children at Bitame Lucia Nursery and Primary School in rural Cameroon receive the education they need.

In this video, Ajomuzu Collette Bekaku, the Founder and Executive Director of CAPEC Cameroon expresses appreciation to Develop Africa and GlobalGiving donors for support provided to CAPEC and the Bitame Lucia School in Cameroon. Over the years this support has included computer training, provision of books and school supplies and general support to the school.

Thank YOU so much for helping our kids get the education they need. We are so grateful for YOUR continued support.

Bests regards,

Develop Africa team
