Dear Donor,
One of the greatest challenges during an Ebola outbreak is ensuring that accurate information reaches communities quickly.
The DRC outbreak has now affected dozens of health zones, while transmission continues in several provinces. The latest ECDC data recorded 7,475 confirmed cases through 16 September, with 87.6% of identified contacts under follow-up.
Development Alert continues emphasizing community-based risk communication.
We engage trusted community networks to encourage people to report unusual illness, seek qualified medical assistance and follow guidance from trained health professionals.
We also work to counter rumors and stigma.
During an outbreak, misinformation can cause people to delay treatment, hide symptoms, distrust health workers or stigmatize affected families.
Reliable information can instead encourage early action and cooperation.
WHO identifies community engagement as a central component of the Ebola response and stresses that communities must be meaningfully involved if outbreaks are to be controlled.
Development Alert remains committed to making preparedness information understandable, practical and accessible.
Every accurate message delivered to a household can become an important line of defense against further transmission.
