Dear Donor,
Uganda has successfully ended its 2026 Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak, but the continuing epidemic in neighboring DRC means preparedness remains essential.
Uganda recorded 20 confirmed cases, including imported and locally acquired infections, before completing the internationally recognized 42-day period without a new confirmed case.
The situation across the border remains serious. The latest official DRC surveillance figures show thousands of confirmed infections and deaths, while newer reporting indicates that the totals continue to rise.
Development Alert continues encouraging communities connected to the DRC to remain vigilant without creating unnecessary fear.
Our preparedness activities emphasize hygiene, early reporting, community surveillance, risk communication and cooperation with health authorities.
We also encourage communities to understand that Uganda's Ebola-free status is strengthened by continued vigilance rather than by assuming the threat has disappeared.
WHO's current response framework specifically includes cross-border preparedness because continued movement between affected and neighboring areas can create opportunities for transmission.
Uganda's progress is worth protecting, and continued community preparedness is an important part of doing so.
