Dear Donor,
The Ebola situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo remains a major public-health emergency, even as encouraging signs are emerging in some locations.
The latest formally published ECDC surveillance data recorded 7,475 confirmed cases and 3,605 deaths through 16 September 2026, with 1,798 people having recovered and 905 patients hospitalized in isolation.
More recent reporting surrounding the launch of a frontline vaccination campaign on 19 September cited approximately 7,541 confirmed cases and 3,639 deaths, illustrating that transmission and reporting are continuing to evolve.
Development Alert continues to emphasize that changing numbers should not create complacency.
Our community preparedness work focuses on early reporting, hygiene promotion, risk communication, contact-tracing cooperation, healthcare-seeking and strengthening community awareness in areas connected to the DRC.
The outbreak remains particularly concerning because the virus is Bundibugyo virus, for which there is currently no licensed vaccine or specific treatment. WHO continues supporting surveillance, contact tracing, clinical preparedness, supplies, community engagement and cross-border preparedness.
Development Alert remains committed to helping communities understand their role in preventing transmission.
Your support allows us to continue bringing reliable information and practical preparedness closer to vulnerable communities when they need it most.
