Dear Supporters,
After our last report in November, new measures were introduced by the government due to increases in the number of cases in Turkey. As of March, a color coding system was introduced, grouping the cities in 4 grades depending on the severity of the pandemic. The restrictions imposed in each city is determined according to the color code of the city. State still is not providing any economic stimulus for the micro and small enterprises or self-employed. Hence, the micro loans KEDV provides for women entrepreneurs is even more important.
Thanks to our donors through GlobalGiving since November 2020, we were able to continue our micro lending activities to low income women. With the donations made in the past 4 months, KEDV was able to give micro loans to 9 more women. Their businesses vary from knitting adult and children sweaters to selling cosmetics, sewing curtains, selling parquet, kitchenware, producing decorative items, producing food. The women were able to sustain their businesses, support their cash-flow, buy products for their shops and materials and machinery for their productions with the help of the loans.
Since June 2015, KEDV raised a total of USD41,000 through GlobalGiving. We are now closer to our target of USD70,000 to be able to support 200 low income women entrepreneurs, but we still have a way to reach it. The need is even more as a result of the economic and social impacts of the pandemic. We would be grateful if you could continue to spread the word and share the project link in your networks.

After our last report on August 3rd, the restrictions imposed due to the pandemic by the Turkish government were relaxed. State did not provide any economic stimulus for the micro and small enterprises or self-employed except for postponing tax payments and providing loans. With the increasing numbers of people infected by Covid-19 since August, the government once again introduced restrictions, without any support to small and micro entrepreneurs. Hence, the micro loans KEDV provided for women entrepreneurs became even more important.
Thanks to our donors through GlobalGiving since August 2020, we were able to continue our micro lending activities to low income women. With the donations made in the past 4 months, KEDV was able to give micro loans to 9 more women. Their businesses vary from selling cosmetics to sewing clothes, selling women’s clothes, kitchenware, knitting, producing curtains, running a hairdresser shop, grocery store. The women were able to sustain their businesses, buy products for their shops and materials and machinery for their productions with the help of the loans.
Since June 2015, KEDV raised a total of USD13.000 through GlobalGiving. We still have a long way to reach our target of USD 70.000 to be able to support 200 low income women entrepreneurs and the need is even more as a result of the economic and social impacts of the pandemic. We would be grateful if you could continue to spread the word and share the project link in your networks.

After our last report on April 7th, due to the pandemic, the Turkish government started to impose lockdowns on 31 metropolitan cities on the weekends in addition to previously imposed restrictions on the movement between cities and lockdowns for people under 20 and over 65 years of age. State announced economic stimulus packages for the private sector; however, these did not provide any support for micro and small enterprises or self-employed except for postponing tax payments and providing loans. People who were already receiving state aid got cash transfer; but this did not include people who were out of economic activity due to the pandemic.
As the economic activities of the micro-entrepreneur women we work with almost stopped, to support them, we postponed their loan payments from April to June. During this period, we continued to contact all our borrowers every week and provided information on the pandemic, prevention methods and what they need to do in case of a suspicion; provided support to the vulnerable ones (elderly and sick); and shared updated information on the economic support the government is providing to the low income citizens and entrepreneurs. We started collecting repayments in June and will start loan disbursements in August. Thanks to our donors through GlobalGiving since April 2020, we were able to carry out this solidarity program during the lock downs to increase the resilience of our borrowers.
Since June 2015, KEDV raised a total of USD10,544 through 161 donations through GlobalGiving. We still have a long way to reach our target of USD 70.000 to be able to support 200 low income women entrepreneurs and the need is even more as a result of the economic impacts of the pandemic. We would be grateful if you could continue to spread the word and share the project link in your networks.

Thanks to our donors through GlobalGiving since July 2019, 6 more women in Eskisehir were able to get loans to invest in their micro businesses. The business supported included painting, knitting, selling clothing from home, selling cosmetics, producing wooden decorative items. While one of them was getting her 3rd loan, others were getting 6th, 7th,8th, 12th loans. The income that women earn from these businesses are, for most of them, the primary source of income. They mention that the loans provided to them are very important in sustaining and improving their businesses and this is the only source that they can borrow from.
