Dear KEDV Supporters,
We believe that strengthening climate resilience starts with strengthening women’s knowledge, leadership, and collective action within their communities.
Over the past six months, we focused on expanding climate awareness among women and creating spaces where they can discuss the impacts of the climate crisis on their lives and neighborhoods. To make this possible, we first organized an intensive Training of Trainers program between October and November 2025 for staff working in our Women and Children Centers. Through six online training sessions, participants deepened their understanding of climate change, disasters, climate justice, and community resilience, while gaining the skills needed to facilitate climate awareness activities with women in their local communities.
Following the training program, KEDV developed a practical climate seminar series that could be implemented directly in Women and Children Centers. Beginning in November 2025, women facilitators conducted seminars covering topics such as disasters, the climate crisis, climate justice, resilient neighborhoods, and individual actions for environmental sustainability.
As a result, 17 separate groups and 287 women participated in climate awareness seminars. Beyond sharing information, these sessions created opportunities for women to reflect on how climate-related risks affect their daily lives, families, livelihoods, and neighborhoods. Participants exchanged experiences, discussed local challenges, and explored collective solutions to strengthen resilience in their communities.
At the same time, we continued our efforts to ensure that women's voices are represented in climate policy discussions. In April, KEDV participated in a study conducted with women farmers, entrepreneurs, and cooperative members to better understand the impacts of climate change on women's economic activities and livelihoods. Through a series of focus group discussions, valuable insights were gathered to inform future climate adaptation and resilience strategies.
Building on these conversations, we have also initiated a Women’s Cooperative Climate Working Group in preparation for the COP31 process. The group currently brings together representatives from ten women’s cooperatives and aims to strengthen women's participation in climate advocacy and decision-making spaces. Together, participants are exploring ways to make women’s experiences, knowledge, and solutions more visible within national and international climate discussions.
Looking ahead, we will continue supporting women as leaders of climate resilience in their communities. By combining grassroots education, community organizing, research, and advocacy, we are working toward a future where women are not only affected by climate policies but actively shape them.
Thank you for helping us advance climate justice through women’s leadership and collective action.
