KEDV plans to ensure climate justice in Turkey by empowering women, who are least responsible for the climate crisis but bear the heaviest burden, and to support 350 low-income women in 50 women's cooperatives to establish green businesses that are resilient to the climate crisis, sustainable and in harmony with nature.
Climate change causes severe impacts like extreme weather events, and food insecurity, disproportionately affecting women. In Turkey, low-income women in cooperatives are highly vulnerable due to declining agricultural yields and economic instability. They often lack resources, knowledge, and infrastructure to adapt. The challenge is to empower them to build climate-resilient livelihoods by transforming cooperatives into sustainable, green businesses and strengthening community resilience.
The project will empower women by providing training, resources, and infrastructure to create climate-resilient livelihoods. It will transform their businesses into sustainable, green enterprises through renewable energy, efficient production methods, and eco-friendly practices. Women will gain knowledge, leadership skills, and build networks, enhancing their adaptation to climate crises. This collective empowerment strengthens local resilience and promotes social and economic stability.
The project will create lasting resilience among low-income women's cooperatives by embedding sustainable, climate-adaptive practices. Women-led green businesses will generate economic stability, reduce poverty and mitigate climate risks. Enhanced leadership will empower women to influence local policies, fostering wider community resilience. Long-term, these cooperatives will become models of climate adaptation, strengthening social cohesion and inspiring further action for a sustainable future
