Support 200 Women Start Small Businesses in Turkey

Since our last report in November, even though some restrictions continued due to the new variant, mobility of people continued to increase. This had a positive affect on the businesses of low-income women. However, Turkey also faced a substantial increase in inflation rate and a devaluation of the Turkish Lira. This resulted in the increase of costs of inputs and regular expenses of the businesses. We were able to raise funds through GlobalGiving in the past 4 months to give micro loans to 19 women entrepreneurs to help them sustain their businesses in these difficult times. Thank you to the donors who supported us to provide the micro loans to low income women at a time of economic turmoil.

The businesses that were supported include selling clothes, selling underwear, knitting, making decorative items with dried flowers, selling cosmetics, hairdressing, tailoring, selling cleaning items, selling skin care products, implementing skin care, producing accessories, producing wedding dresses, producing knitted toys, producing decorative items for events. The women were able to buy products to sell and ingredients for their production activities with the help of the loans.

In the last 4 months, KEDV was able to raise 3,400USD from its donors. We are now closer to our target of USD70,000 to be able to support 200 low income women entrepreneurs, but we still have a way to reach it. The need is even more as a result of the economic turmoil and the persisting impacts of the pandemic. Since our last report in July, the restrictions due to pandemic were mostly lifted and the mobility of people increased. This had a positive impact on the businesses of low income women that we support. The micro loans KEDV provides for women entrepreneurs in this phase of return to normal are even more important now.

Thanks to our donors through GlobalGiving since July 2021, we were able to continue our micro lending activities to low income women. With the donations made in the past 4 months, KEDV was able to give micro loans to 4 more women. Their businesses vary from food production to selling clothes in market place and selling cosmetics. The women were able to buy products to sell and ingredients for their production activities with the help of the loans.

In the last 4 months, KEDV was able to raise 1270USD from its donors. We are now closer to our target of USD70,000 to be able to support 200 low income women entrepreneurs, but we still have a way to reach it. The need is even more as a result of the economic and social impacts of the pandemic. We would be grateful if you could continue to spread the word and share the project link in your networks.
