TLF Refugee Alumni in Indonesia

The Learning Farm Indonesia has been successfully empowered 1156 vulnerable youth to become independent and productive members for their communities. During its 14 years of successful operation, we have run 34 batches of the basic program (100 days) and 19 advanced level programs (200 days).

In 2016, we are started to work in collaboration with UNHCR Indonesia by giving a refugee place to learn organic farming. They are unaccompanied youth which is coming from various countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Yemen etc.

At the moment, we have 32 refugees alumni where they are now back to their community. Most of them have impacted other refugees such as teaching Bahasa Indonesia, being an interpreter, and teaching hydroponic farming methods. Apart from that, two refugees alumni have resettled to Australia and Canada.

Those who live in Indonesia as a refugee is disallowed to work and to study. They practically stay in their rental home or the detention centre. However, The Learning Farm training has helped the refugee students to be more resilience while living in Indonesia. By these experiences, they are then actively participated in their community and involved with Indonesian people whether in the traditional market, hospital, and any other circumstances.
