Remember the story about Shona in the June report edition? She was the first female Batch Leader in the history of TLF, from Batch 27. Here’s an update on her life now!
Shona, who was recommened by Plan Indonesia, has returned to her home town in Desa Pili, Kecamatan Kie, Timur Tengah Selatan, NTT. As part of Plan Indonesia Program, Shona and her friends returned home to do organic farming.
Before TLF expereince they had been farming conventionally. Now they are encouraging and facilitating the young people and adults in their village to do organic farming. Plan Indonesia provides them with seedling and they work with the villagers who own plots of land to practice and develop organic farming.
Shona and her friends have facilitated about 28 young people. More and more people are converting to the organic way of farming. The parents of the young people are also recognising the importnace of the change in farming techniques. There are now about 50 people taking part in this process.
Shona realizes the importance of education. With the support from her uncle she continues to study at University. Unfortunately there is not a Department of Agriculture in her hometown in Soe and so she has decided to take English as her major. It was a t TLF that she first learnt English from a native speaker and this has motivated her to pursue English as her field of study. Her leadership skills continue to grow and she was nominated and elected as Head of Class 2017 in the English Department, STKIP (Sekolah Tinggi Kejuruan dan Ilmu Pengetahuan) Soe, NTT.
"I feel very lucky to have the chance to learn and grow at TLF. Not only learning organic farming, but I also experience many valuable life skills." Said Shona expressing her gratitude.
