THANK YOU FOR THE "SOUND GIFT"

Thanks to the support of THE AMERICAN SOCIETY, the second phase of examinations was carried out for the children who were examined in the tour to La Pintada and that they required a second evaluation in our clinic.

This second phase is important to be able to perform additional auditory tests that allow us to diagnose or rule out, hearing loss in children who did not pass the auditory screening on the field tour.

This time two small children were detected with hearing loss, diagnosing the need to use hearing aids to be able to listen.

THE AMERICAN SOCIETY on this occasion supported so that both children could have the SOUND GIFT, their hearing aids !!!

# Solo1Minuto de Silencio - To raise awareness about high noise levels in Panama and the world

-The International Day of Noise Awareness was held worldwide for the twenty-second time this Wednesday, April 26 from 2:15 a.m. to 2:16 p.m.

On Wednesday, April 26 was a day of world celebration and Panama does not escape it. The host of this commemoration is the OIR ES VIVIR FOUNDATION and all citizens in the country were the special guests to join to do #Solo1 Minuto de Silencio between 2:15 and 2:16 pm for International Day of Noise Awareness.

And is that celebrating this day had been a tradition that since 2012 promotes in Panama the OIR ES VIVIR FOUNDATION, an institution that will celebrate ten years with the dedication of the promotion for the early detection of hearing loss, citizens with this disability and, above all, to educate on the subject.

The "International Day of Noise Awareness", an activity organized for the past 22 years by the US Center for Hearing and Communications (CHC), invites the world to assume responsibility for taking control and lowering noise levels created in homes, institutions, schools, recreation sites, communities and cities, to more acceptable and harmless volumes.

FUNDACION OIR ES VIVIR had extended an invitation to government entities, companies, organizations, schools, the media and the general public to support the minute of silence on April 26 at 2:15 p.m.. (see pictures enclosed)

Giovanna Troncoso, President of the Foundation, said that the invitation for that day was very simple. "It does not matter where they are. The call was to be an agent who promotes #1Minuto of symbolic silence, whether they do it alone or do it with their families, friends or co-workers. Join the minute of silence and take the opportunity to take a selfie doing "shhhhhhhh", upload it to your social networks labeled # Solo1Minuto and tag @fundacionoiresvivir.   In addition, we would like to nominate 3 more people to do the same.  That way we will be more who contribute to a world with less noise. " (

It is time to become aware of the imminent damage that noise presents to hearing health for people of all ages. Studies have shown that continuous exposure to noise above 85 decibels can cause irreparable damage to hearing and also affect other aspects of the human being including behavioral changes, learning, sleep patterns and disorders caused by stress. FUNDACION OIR ES VIVIR a non-profit organization, was founded in 2008 as a non-profit organization in Panama dedicated to the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of hearing loss and hearing care.

The foundation presents some recommendations for a "Diet of Silence" to be taken into account in the day to day:

• Use hearing protection when you are in noisy events or places.

• Pay attention to the sounds you emit and respect the peace and tranquility of others around you.

• Turn down the volume to which you usually listen to music with headphones.

• Lower the volume you normally hear TV, radio or sound equipment down one or two points.

• Avoid whistling while driving.

• At restaurants, nightclubs, theaters, and other entertainment venues, ask managers to turn down the volume when they feel it is necessary.

• Replace activities where there are high levels of sound by others with less noise.

• Have a hearing test done regularly.
