Project Report: October - December 2024

Implementing Partner: Family Harvest Foundation

Project title: Periodic Report October to December 2024

Background

In this quarter, we openned a final term for 2024 while continuing to support youth and vulnerable women, girls  and boys in accessing vocational skills training services in Gulu and Nwoya district and Gulu City. A number of activities have been conducted including recruitment and training of new students, support to processing and giving Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) examination, and annual general institutional meeting. Also participated in a number of partnership activities, including the Giving Tuesday campaign.

What was done

We partivipated in the Giving Tuesday of this year 2024 and received donations.

Recruitment of trainees: 28 students have been recruited 27 (f) and 1(m) as trainees in various courses including; 22 sponsered by the Refugee and Host Community Youth Empowerement and Transformation Initiative  ( RETI) project of Gulu University together with Muni University, and 06 self sponsored. 18 are studying hair dressing and 10 for tailoring.

Support to other Vacational Schools to do modular DIT exams. 17 students were supported from the Youth Development orgnaization in Omoro district and 01 trainee from our school Family Harvest Foundation, to sit for the modular DIT exams that were held on 11 December 2024.

Board meeting:  An annual board meeting was conducted to discuss progress and draw better plan for the future specifically the next 2 years.

Community visit: The community volunteer advocates have continued to mobilise, liase, train and conduct activities supporting our advocacy programs in Nwoya district. They made four community visits in Lakalac and Kalang villages  in Kochgoma subcounty with focus on child care for improved nutrition.

Partnership: Our partnership with GlobalGiving will always remain active. We engaged in partnership meetings with GIZ together with European union, and in a consultative meeting with UWONET on the rights of women, girls and children. We were part of a consultative meeting with GIZ and European Union to foster partnership on funding modalities, a localization approach. UWONET (Uganda Women Network) are a potential partner interested in supporting communities with a similar challenge, especially on promotion of the rights of women, children,  and girl child, a group that we target.

What was achieved

Our work attracted support of other institutions that led to the sponsorship  of 22 students at the Vocational school currently undergoing training.

Support to other Vocational institutions  exposed Family Harvest's work beyond the institution that has increased its visibility hence attracting more students.

The resolutions from the board meeting will improve delivery of the organizational objectives hence empowering  more vulnerable people.

Next Quarter plans

  • To do post training employment tracking that will foster fundraising
  • To find other projects in Nwoya and communities for scale up of community programming.
