Part 1: GENERAL INFORMATION
Executive summary
Vocational skills training to 90 youth from northern Uganda within 2 years from the beginning of the Learn to Earn project have continued to face a challenges due to financial difficulties as we inplment the project in Uganda.
There are five tailoring, five construction, five hairdressing and three motor cycle youth that are registered and completed training though they none of them undertook the national non-formal Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) examination. The livelihood project in Nwoya district is successful with one group proudly implementing their activities based on the community led-development approaches.
We received $292.94 as donations majorly from our monthly donors and one from an anonymous donor and $254.34 disbursement during this period of reporting. Our total expense during the period of reporting is $120.3. The website has remained active. We participated in the 2024 July Bonus Day that was held on 10th July 2024.
The opportunities for new partnership continue to come by as different organizations hear about Family Harvest Foundation with the partnership with GlobalGiving Foundation like with All Access a new fundraising organisation interested in partnering with us. The global agenda of shifting the power provides bigger opportunities to Family Harvest Foundation to play key roles in development with partners like USAID/Peace Direct.
Part 2: OTHER INFORMATION
2.1: Participation
a. The 18 youth registered in term one 2024 completed studies irrespective of the challenges they face at family level that could not afford to pay for the DIT examination held in June 2024. The FEMI Netherland delegate who visited our community project in Koch Goma Sub County in Nwoya district with interest to build partnership for future development work is likely to come back given her comments during the last visit as we signed a tripatite partnership agreement with FEMI and AMANI as they intend to work together.
2.3: Gender Equity
a. Gender issues in very important in every aspect of our project and shall remain at 60:40 with a focus to encourage more women to take part in our activities. The majority of our participants are females with kin consideration in to all sexes..
2.4: Child Centeredness and Rights Based Approaches
a. Our collaboration with Save the Children International, Movement for Community-Led Development Uganda (MCLDU), Gulu NGO Forum, Girls Not Brides Uganda and the GlobalGiving child centered resources provide us good opportunities to train even child mothers or non-mothers gain knowledge needed for children all over the world and at our facility as well as in the community we work.
2.5: Challenges, Lessons Learnt and dissemination
a. Successful and productive partnership continues to unfold between GGF, MCLDU, Gulu NGO Forum and FHF. The new partnership with FEMI Netherland and All Acess are the most recent development.
b.The Movement for Community Led-Development (MCLD), CARE International, WEZESHA Impact, Save the Children International, Girls Not Brides Uganda, Gulu District Local Government, Nwoya District Local Government, Gulu City Council and Uganda National Oil Company- UNOC and USAID have continued to unvail as partners with different project/program activities.
2.6: Emerging Advocacy Issues:
a. Our advocacy program to end stunting for children from 0 to 5 years old in partnership with MCLDU through the Right2Grow project in Nwoya District Local Government in the third year is still ongoing, ending child marriage in collaboration with Gils Not Brides Uganda is equally active. Its one of our advocacy project supported by the Right2Grow project financed by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala. A data collection exercise gathering community voices for making an informed decision to source for support for the community was carried out between November and December 2023 and are searching funds for this year's projects. Data collection on cooperatives society has been concluded by staff from Family Harvest Foundation in northern Uganda.
b. We have a collaboration with Save the Children International advocating to end Teenage pregnancies and Child marriage in Nwoya District Local Government for the second year by implementing the National Strategy to End Teenage Pregnacies and Child Marriages. Our community volunteer advocates have continued to persue parents and local community leaders to enforce the surge to fight the practices.
c. Girls Not Brides Uganda is involving us is a series of advocacy program to end child marriages in Uganda. We participated in the localisation agenda by USAID to learn and gain expereinces to work with USAID in the Northern Roadshow held in Arua.
2.7: Organizational Changes:
a. Plans to establish a permanent site for the school/office space is discussed and a search is in its final stage despite that challenge to pay for the land.
b. The Board, location, staff and management structures remained in force and are active but with the death of one board member, a search for one to replace is on.
c. Website hosting and subscription have remained active with difficulty in financing the payment though paid todate.
d. Instagram, Facebook and twitter publicity continued though on a low pace given lack of trained IT personnel.
2.8: Other Comments:
a. Our EMIS registration number for the vocational school is 4A000052 being a requirement by the Ministry of Education Science Sports and Technology to recognize any institution conducting educational services.
