Suburban Camp
In August, the Suburban Camp for children of the employees took place in Thomayer Hospital. The teachers and volunteers had prepared a lot of funny games and challenges. They went for walk to the nice forest nearby the hospital. One of the most interesting excursions for the kids was visiting the apiary of Prague Forest.
Due to the weather conditions, this year we could not have stay overnight, but we still have enjoyed the campfire and the our favourite karaoke singing:-)
Making a Memory Board in the Department of Pediatric Neurology in Thomayer Hospital
There was a workshop in Thomayer Hospital which took place on 17th of August in the Department of Pediatric Neurology. Mothers and elder children made memory wooden boards during this workshop.
Mothers and children decorated the boards with napkins according to a special technique.
These unique pieces will be very helpful for them at home – the boards will protect them from forgetting things by remembering them what they have to do.
World Smile Day
World Smile Day is celebrated on 6th of October. This year we decided to join the celebration. Our intention was to point at the power of human smile. It does not take any money but still can change so much: the feelings of patients after an examination, communication among the hospital stuff and also the atmosphere during the patient’s visit. On October the 6th, our volunteers were walking around the Thomayer Hospital, giving all the people little presents and making them smile. Every member of the hospital stuff received a button with a smiley (which is an inofficial symbol of the hospital). There were handed out leaflets with information about the benefits of laughing and smiling and also leaflets with jokes about the medical environment.
The mission of Lékorice is to make the atmosphere in the hospitals better. In the Thomayer Hospital, we keep on organizing many events for patients and also for the employees, in order to provide them psychological and social support; regular visiting of the patients by our volunteers, different workshops, music performances, distribution of Chrismas presents etc. The World Smile Day is a completely new activity among the traditional ones organized by Lékorice. There are circumstances we cannot change but still we can show through this event that “everything works better with a smile“.
