Excellent Progress-- But Have Our Eyes on Next Summer and Need Your Help !
By Mbeng Simon Nsah | The Director of BFF
Since the last report BFF has been very actively searching for funds
nationally and internationally in order to organize the HIV/SEX
Education camp for youth next summer. In doing this a series of
planning meetings have been held by BFF members to plan for the next
camp in order to ensure its success.
We have equally been involved in sensitizing the population towards
this camp. This sensitization is done through the the organization of
other HIV/AIDS workshops in which we involved community and
institutional leaders from across our division (Boyo). These leaders
have been trained on Men As Partner (MAP) to fight the HIV/AIDS
pandemic in our community. This workshop has been organize with funds
from PEPFAR through the Peace Corps Volunteer grant called VAST.Those
trained have to act as trainers in their institutions and communities
in order to raise the awareness of the pandemic in their communities
and rally youth to become involve in the fight. These activities will
act as a prelude to our forth-coming camp next summer.
In addition to this many other preparatory workshops are due to be
organised in the days ahead in order to mobilize the youth from all
the communities of Boyo division. We keep trusting that more funds
will be received in order to facilitate the organization of this camp,
which we think will a very grand event. We thank all those who have
been supporting us in this venture by contributing in whatever way to
support these vulnerable population in our community.
Accept my best and warmest regards.

HIV/Sex-ED Day Camp for Risk Youth in Cameroon
By Mbeng Simon Nsah | The Director BFF
Better Family Foundation organised a nine day HIV/Sex-ED Day camp for youth at risk in Fundong during the last summer break. This was done in partnership with Peace Corps Cameroon program and Nourish students International from the United States of America. Part of the funds were from the above mentioned organizations with a little portion from the funds raised through Global Giving.
The camp was very successful and seventy participants were in attendance. During the workshop participants had lunch, workshop materials and handouts. Also cultural views on issues of sexuality were exchanged between the Cameroonian youth and the American students.
The results of the nine day workshop were very positive as the silence that surround sex issues among the Cameroonian youth were broken and the youth could discussed these issues with their peers and parents very freely as opposed to the past. We believe that the results of the workshop will have both present and far-reaching effects on the Fundong community and beyond.
We look forward to organise another workshop in another community during the next summer if we will get some funds. We heartedly thanks all the actors who contributed finacially and morally to make this workshop a sucess.

HIV/Sex-ED Day Camp for Risk Youth in Cameroon
By Mbeng Simon Nsah | The Director - Better Family Foundation
Better Family Foundation has been on searching for avenues to have funds for the organization of workshop on HIV/AIDS, STIs and early pregnancies. Fortunately, we were able to have some funds for this purpose from Peace Corp Cameroon program.
Better Family Foundation has been very busy on the field raising resources for the organization of a workshop on the prevention of HIV/AIDS, STIs and early pregnancies among adolescents population. This workshop will be organized in Fundong in The North West Region of Cameroon. It should be noted that North West Region is ranked second in Cameroon in HIV/AIDS prevalence rate which as of now stands at 5.4%. The acquired funds shall be used to purchase material for the workshop and ensure efficient organization of the workshop. BFF therefore is making preparation to organize the workshop in two phases. First preparations are going on to organize one phase for the married couples as from the 17th-20th June 2013 for 25 couples and 10 teachers. It is believed that if parents are able to identify the ills of these deadly diseases, they can help to sensitize the youth…..they themselves being role models. So far handouts have been developed for this workshop. The next phase of the workshop will be on the 4th-12th July 2013 for 40 youth. Manuals and other resources are being put in place for this forthcoming phase of the workshop.
BFF will partner with Peace Corp Volunteers and Nourish International to facilitate the both phases of the workshop. A team of 5 students from Nourish Intl shall be travelling from USA to Cameroon to address this concern amongst others. This workshop will just be first workshop in a series as we intend to organize many of similar workshops in other communities in Cameroon as long as keep receiving funds for this purpose.
