HIV/Sex-ED Day Camp for Risk Youth in Cameroon

By Mbeng Simon Nsah | The Director - Better Family Foundation

Better Family Foundation has been on searching for avenues to have funds for the organization of workshop on HIV/AIDS, STIs and early pregnancies. Fortunately, we were able to have some funds for this purpose from Peace Corp Cameroon program.

Better Family Foundation has been very busy on the field raising resources for the organization of a workshop on the prevention of HIV/AIDS, STIs and early pregnancies among adolescents population. This workshop will be organized in Fundong in The North West Region of Cameroon. It should be noted that North West Region is ranked second in Cameroon in HIV/AIDS prevalence rate which as of now stands at 5.4%. The acquired funds shall be used to purchase material for the workshop and ensure efficient organization of the workshop.  BFF therefore is making preparation to organize the workshop in two phases. First preparations are going on to organize one phase for the married couples as from the 17th-20th June 2013 for 25 couples and 10 teachers. It is believed that if parents are able to identify   the ills of these deadly diseases, they can help to sensitize the youth…..they themselves being role models. So far handouts have been developed for this workshop. The next phase of the workshop will be on the 4th-12th July 2013 for 40 youth. Manuals and other resources are being put in place for this forthcoming phase of the workshop.

BFF will partner with Peace Corp Volunteers and Nourish International to facilitate the both phases of the workshop. A team of 5 students from Nourish Intl shall be travelling from USA to Cameroon to address this concern amongst others. This workshop will just be first workshop in a series as we intend to organize many of similar workshops in other communities in Cameroon as long as keep receiving funds for this purpose.
