Towards self sustainability

Hello Friends,
Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend. This day honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well-being of the country.
In India child labor is a complex issue and we have taken the initiative to find a better solution. We are moving forward to provide special classes of respective grades to the youth and also we are focusing to teach sewing skills to make them self-sustained.
In last two reports I highlighted the turning point story of Sabita and how we changed Nelan’s life. Both of them are doing great in developing their skills and learning in school. They are grateful to SANTI as they were provided a great platform to be successful.
We are making sure that they improve their sewing skills. They have proven that the local people like their product but I would say there is room for improvement. We are sharpening their skills in such a way that in future they can start their own shop or a venue. None the less now they are earning about INR 5000 per month by sewing work through SANTI.
We have two challenges –
- We need to buy some more machines, so that we can start adding more students to the team and we need your support.
- We need at least one embroidery machine which is kind of expensive, but that will help us to stand out in local market.
Please cheer up to celebrate the success of Nelan and Sabita and come forward to donate so that we can bring more success stories to you.
It is possible just because of you.
Thanks
Ashok

Turning Point Story of Sabita

Dear friends
Sabita belongs to the poor section of the Rajgangpur, her father works as a security guard earning Rs. 5000 per month but he wastes most of them by drinking alcohol. Her mom is a housewife and looks after her four children. Life became challenging and tough for Sabita when she was studying in 12th grade. She started working as a maid in nearby homes, when Mr. Sarat Pati came to know about her. As she was hard working and interested to learn, we enrolled her in SANTI Sewing course funded by your support. That was the turning point of her life, she became very interested in sewing and currently we can say she is one of our best.
Recently, Sabita led the effort to sell blouses at Rajgangpur Jharjhara Mahotsav (Festival). Together with 6 other youths of SANTI, Sabita was able to sell more than 100 blouses. Currently she is able to take home about Rs. 5000 per month. With huge support from SANTI she feels secured and recently completed 12th grade in Arts with second division. This is a major accomplishment for her as before SANTI she was about to give up. We wish her to achieve better success in future and will encourage her to study further.
This is a proud moment! When your donation really turned Sabita’s life in a different direction, I bet you are also proud of this achievement. Without your support it was not possible. We would like you to continue support as we need more sewing machines to be used by others to bring similar success.
Thanks again

How we changed Nelan's life
By Ashok Dandpat | Project Leader

In early childhood, Nelan lost her mother due to malaria. Her father and Nelan both were working in local factories but unable to meet the end need. Even Nelan and her dad used to collect seeds and leaves from forest and sell others but still were unable to bring food to the table. With many hours of hard work Nelan was sort of tired and no interest for study or learning new skills. You can imagine the natural tendency to first find food then think about other needs.
During a survey in that area, a SANTI volunteer came to know about Nelan and asked to join SANTI Child Labor elimination school. Nelan was pretty excited and didn’t even think twice. She joined the SANTI Child Labor Elimination School established by solely by your donation. Along with study, she learnt sewing and alteration. She made Indian Blouse, Petty coat, Salwar Kamiz etc. These were sold to local shoppers. Last month she earned about 3400 Indian Rupee. This is a pretty big achievement for Nelan and as we discussed her dad is really proud of Nelan.
Nelan and her dad are both happy and this is possible because of your donation and support to SANTI. We need your support to finish the roof building project. Nelan and others do alteration work under the building that we are finishing now.
Please donate to our initiative and I am sure we will bring many more Nelan to you.
Nelan specially thanked to you “for your help to change her life and wishes you great happiness in your life”.
God Bless,
Ashok Dandpat
