Project Report | Nov 5, 2024
Jovenes creaTIvos 2024 making great progress ...

By Carlos Araque | Project Coordinator

ENGLISH VERSION

What happened in July 2024?

Program progress: 50%

Results achieved:

  • 28 virtual sessions carried out on an introduction to programming logic.
  • 18 software development mentoring sessions carried out for students with learning difficulties.
  • 2 mindfulness sessions carried out on security, self-confidence and relaxation.
  • 7 in-person hackathon sessions carried out in each of the program's cities, where participants solve a challenge collaboratively.
  • 3 educational visits carried out in IT companies: Sofka Technologies in Medellín, Lean Solutions Group in Cartagena and PlayTech in Cali.
  • 5 complementary talks carried out on topics such as: agile methodologies, cybersecurity, employability, digital marketing.
  • We implemented improvements to the program, including:
    • We applied a placement test to guide the training path based on basic or advanced programming knowledge. We increased the minimum score required to move to the advanced level as well as the difficulty of the answers. On a scale from 0 to 100, they go from 63 points to the advanced level.
    • Reinforcement of classes: We have identified a need among the program participants: reinforcement of knowledge acquired in classes, since numerous doubts arise that can hinder their progress. At the same time, we observed that some of our monitors with a solid command of software development were spontaneously offering mentoring to students who needed it within their groups. Based on this observation, we took the initiative to structure and formalize this support. We organized and established daily mini-mentoring schedules in the afternoon, led by five monitors who graduated from the Jóvenes CreaTIvos Program and by specialized personnel from Sofka Technologies.
    • Collaborative work between instructors: We have transformed the work dynamics of our instructors from a vertical structure to a more horizontal and collaborative one. To do this, we have created a board in Miro, where:
      • They can see the progress of their groups and compare themselves with other groups.
      • They can diagnose, to understand what works well and what needs to be improved in the program.
      • They can come up with solutions.
      • We have enabled an instructor ranking.
      • They can have access to good practices between instructors.
