Your Students Have Been Busy

By Sarah Seltz | Development and Grants Manager

Kutamba Primary School students on DEAR Day
Kutamba Primary School students on DEAR Day

Your students have settled in nicely at school and are excited to be learning!  They have been studying hard this first term so they can start the year strong with good grades.  They have also been busy outside of the classroom as well.  On March 15th all 765 students participated in DEAR Day (Drop Everything and Read).  This is a national holiday in Uganda to encourage people in schools, organizations, and in the community to put down what they’re doing and read.  Thanks to your support, there were enough books for all of your students to participate in DEAR Day!

The students recently got to enjoy a film as well.  They watched Cornerstone for their first time.  Cornerstone is a documentary about Nyaka AIDS Orphans Project and how it was inspired and created.  It was shown at all three schools and students loved it!  They were excited to see a film about them, their schools, and their grandmothers.  It was unlike anything they had ever seen.  Another special treat that the students recently had was a visit from the CEO and Founder of Nyaka AIDS Orphans Project, Jackson Kaguri.  He spent the day visiting the children and even taught in the nursery class at Nyaka Primary School about the various species of leaves and other local plants.

Your students are grateful for the opportunity you have given them to go to school.  Thank you for all of your love and support!
