Last week we talked about all of the wonderful things YOU provide to YOUR students in Uganda: two hot meals a day, school uniforms and new shoes, medicine, and all of their school supplies.
But what do these things really do for YOUR students?
Thanks to YOUR support, YOUR students are staying in school longer. YOUR girls are delaying marriage and children until they're ready. And YOUR students are excelling academically above their peers across Uganda.
Last December, YOUR primary seven students took their PLE exams. These are national exams that determine which students will be allowed to go on to secondary or vocational school. The test is challenging and many students in Uganda fail. In fact, 12% of students in all of Uganda didn't pass the exams at all.
The story was very different for YOUR students at Nyaka and Kutamba Primary School.
100% of YOUR primary seven students passed their exams last year and 86% earned a B or higher!

YOU have done so much to help YOUR students in Uganda.
Right now 697 HIV/AIDS Orphans are in school because of YOU.
They have everything they need to succeed: two hot meals a day, school uniforms and new shoes, medicine, and all of their school supplies.
This year has brought some pretty big firsts! Nyaka's third school, the Nyaka Vocational Secondary School, was opened in February thanks to YOUR support and YOUR pioneer students are headed off to University in the fall.
YOUR achievements this year will only grow. We expect YOUR students to continue to excel and reach their dreams. But the power of YOUR impact in Uganda is stronger than you realize.
Every time a student goes to University, all of the younger students see what is possible. Opening the door for just one student, gives every student the hope that THEY could one day achieve their dream too. Suddenly becoming a doctor or a lawyer doesn't seem so unattainable.
In the years to come, we cannot wait to see what more of YOUR students will do. What dreams they will chase and the amazing ways they will breathe life back into their community.

YOUR 14 pioneer students who just graduated from high school last December. Over the last few months since graduation, 12 of YOUR graduates have been filling out applications and waiting anxiously to see if they got into University.
And the results have started coming in...
We are so excited to tell you that, Shirah, one of YOUR top students, just got her acceptance letter from Vancouver Island University! She will be attending VIU on a FULL scholarship!
Every statistic about Uganda's HIV/AIDS orphans says that Shirah and her classmates should never have succeeded.
Thanks to YOUR LOVE, Shirah and many other HIV/AIDS orphans are obliterating the barriers!
There are many more children like Shirah--brilliant children who are being kept in poverty because they don't have the opportunity to go to school. Help us change their stories like YOU have done for so many other children!

Janitah is one of YOUR nursery students at Kutamba Primary School.
Her favorite color is blue and she loves to sing. But most of all she loves to go to school.
Every day she wakes up in the morning, puts on the shoes and the pretty green school uniform YOU bought her and begins her long walk to school.
As she walks to school, carrying the books YOU gave her, she dreams about her future.

You'd seen shoes before but you'd never had a pair of your own. Your teacher smiled at you as brushed the dust off your feet and pulled the socks up all the way to yours knees. They feel tight and warm but, before you can decide if you like it or not, she slips the shoes--your shoes--on your feet.
The bunny runs around the tree and goes into the hole and, before you know it, you're standing up in your first pair of shoes. At first it's strange but you notice that the stones don't hurt your feet anymore. You can run faster and jump without worrying about cuts or bruises.
Even though you're young, you know these shoes mean something more than what they seem. It means someone cares about you from your head all the way down to your toes.
After your parents died, you weren't sure if anyone would ever believe in you the way your parents had. But now you know someone does. And somehow that helps you run a little bit faster, jump a little bit higher, and work a little bit harder to reach your dream. Knowing that someone is standing beside you makes everything feel a little bit easier.
Every one of YOUR nursery student goes through an experience like this when they begin school. It might be the day they receive their first pair of shoes, the day they put on their first school uniform, or maybe when they receive their first pencil in class. Because YOU have given to this project, YOU have given a moment like this to a child who desperately needed it.
