Twelve (12) DLSU COSCA's partner community - based organizations in urban poor communities in Metro, Manila were among those visited from March to May 2018 for an initial business scoping. These organizations compose the new community partners that the Lasallian Social Enterprise for Economic Development (L-SEED) Fellowship Program will partner with, for the second batch of student Social Enterprise ( SE) Fellows. The Boot camp for the second batch of Social Enterprise Fellowship Program is implemented in partnership with DLSU’s Council of Student Organizations (CSOs). The L-SEED SE Bootcamp 2018 aims to enable partner communities and students create social enterprises that are relevant, sustainable and impact driven.
The implementation of the series of workshop, this time for another batch of community members from COSCA’s partners in 12 areas in Metro Manila as well as identifying student “Champions” on social entrepreneurship is its strategy to support the development of social enterprises in urban poor communities. The program helps build the social entrepreneurship capacities of promising urban poor women and out-of-school youth.
Women members from partner communities now prepare themselves for the series of workshop that will introduce them to concepts such as “social entrepreneurship in the Philippines and characteristics of SEs”, and “responding to community problem/s and creating and developing the SE idea.” Also, aspiring students for the SE Fellowship Program are encouraged to attend the workshop for the community members, as participant - observer and share the advocacy on Social Entrepreneurship.
Based on an update made by COSCA’s LSEED Development Specialist, while the business scooping for the second batch is undertaken, the first batch SE teams also continue the implementation of their established social enterprises. Team Kalid’s products are already available on a “by order” basis while Team Casalo has officially met with a potential organic product supplier. On the other hand, Team Takamin is working on the enhancement of its operational plan. The fourth team, Team Luminanay has conducted series of training for its community partners on sales and operations management.
