An appeal to bring meals to more Filipino kids who are experiencing hunger and malnutrition.
Dear Friends, Partners, and Co-Advocates,
Since the launch of #ProjectBaon last 2015, we have always had an average of 300 beneficiaries per batch under the program. This year 2021, after the economic turmoil brought about by the Covid19 pandemic, we resumed the program with a total of 400 beneficiaries, with selected kids from Antipolo Rizal (200 kids), Quezon City (150 kids), and Pangasinan (50). These children belong to families who are living below the poverty line, whose parents are not able to meet even their most basic needs such as food, shelter, and clothing. For these 400 kids, our staff and volunteers prepare and deliver the meals to their houses weekly, rain or shine. Though we have an increase in the number of beneficiaries thanks to all your generous donations, sadly, the number “400” barely makes a dent against the number of children in the country who are now experiencing involuntary hunger for the past months.
“Time is running out for the country's hungry children”.…says an article from Rappler Philippines “The July 3-6, 2020 National Mobile Survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) illustrates the intensity of hunger in the country. The results indicate that 20.9%, an estimated 5.2 million Filipino families, or roughly 30 million Filipinos, mostly children, reported experiencing involuntary hunger due to lack of food to eat at least once in the past 3 months.”
We have received and continue receiving multiple appeals from different partners nationwide, on the need for a full-time feeding program for the children in their communities, whose parents are still left unemployed. As of today, we have OVER 11,000 children on the waitlist to be a part of a #ProjectBaon feeding program in their community. These are children we were able to reach in the past 2 months during our Christmas outreach activities in November and December (sponsored by a corporate partner), but unfortunately, cannot convert into a full-time feeding program yet due to lack of current resources.

Indeed, the future of thousands of Filipino children is at stake if we do not intervene now and provide them with consistent access to nutritious meals. “Filipino children's hunger and malnutrition are expected to worsen significantly as food and healthy diets become even more unaffordable to many Filipino households due to the COVID-19 restrictions and the accompanying economic recession”- Link We need your help to create awareness and spread the word.
Currently, our team prepares and delivers about 1,200 meals weekly to the houses of the children in need. This has been made possible through your consistent giving and partnership with us. With more donors like you, together we can save more children from hunger and malnutrition. We appeal to you to please consider sharing this report with your friends and families who have the heart to help the Filipino children.
Together, let us FEED, NOURISH, EMPOWER!
Sincerely from all of us,
Dawn+ ROFP Staff and Volunteers
It has been difficult for all of us ever since the pandemic started. Many of us have experienced some kind of loss and most of us adjusted to new circumstances. That is why we would like to share our volunteers’ story of dedication and selflessness to inspire and cheer you up.
On September 22, Ana, Charles, Ate Leony, Ate Weng, Monic, and Ate Ruth who are regular volunteers, prepared an early dinner meal for the kids at Sitio Dumpsite. They finished cooking and packing the meals of fried chicken, rice, and banana and were ready to deliver the food to the community by 3 pm. (Because of Covid-19 we’re now delivering meals to the kids instead of gathering them at our feeding station.) However, heavy rain started to pour. They waited for the rain to stop but it did not. Time was running out and the meals needed to be distributed. After one and a half hours, they decided to leave.
Armed for the rain in improvised raincoats made of plastic bags, they rented two tricycle. However, another hurdle came into view. The rain made the last few hundred meters impassable, so the team had to walk the rest of the way. With plastic bags full of meals in each hand, the team walked up the muddy and slippery road to reach the kids. It was nighttime when they finished serving all the food. They had to walk back to the feeding station because they had reallocated their transportation money to the meal budget to produce more meals. “We walked home drained of energy but our hearts were full,” one of them said later.
Ana documented their experience and you can watch it on our Facebook Page.
From the collective funds we received thru your generosity, together, we were able to provide meals to children in four feeding stations:
1. Bagumbayan and Libis: 130 kids
2. Sitio Dumpsite: 200 kids
3. Cainta: 100 kids
4. Brgy. Tarace: 50 kids
A total of 480 kids are served every week.
“There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life beautiful for others.” - Mandy Hale
This quote doesn’t apply only to the Sitio Dumpsite team but to you as well who finance this advocacy.
To our dear Donors and Partners,
Year 2020 is the 5th year of the #ProjectBaon program and there are simply no words to describe our gratefulness for your support and love for the thousands of kids who have received their school meals through this program since 2015.
School year 2020-2021 will be a totally different experience for all the kids in the communities we serve. Due to the Covid19 Pandemic, there are still no definite plans on when schools will be open. With covid 19 cases still on the rise and no vaccine yet available, the government, educators and parents are all in agreement that Schools should NOT open yet.
And so #ProjectBaon continues with our team going house to house to deliver these essential meals for the kids and in some communities even for their whole family. To maximize the impact, we have decided to combine funds from the #ProjectBaon Fundraiser with our Covid19 Relief Funds.
In the first wave of meal and food pack distribution, a total of 3,071 meals were distributed to 4 different locations as below :
In Brgy. Bagumbayan Quezon City, one family you are helping is the family of Lilian, a single mother of 5 kids.
“I see happiness in my kids whenever we receive meals from you.” says Lilian. The father of her children is in jail. Lilian had him imprisoned because of his drug habit. “Even if it means my having to raise the children alone, I’d rather see him behind bars” she says. Before the quarantine, she made a living by peddling sampaguita flowers along Katipunan Avenue and sometimes by cleaning condo units at Eastwood City. Since the lockdown began, she and her children have been forced to stay in their small house beside the river in Brgy. Bagumbayan, Quezon City. She has no way to earn a living, no means of providing food for her children."
Lilian is just one of the thousands of families we are able to help through your continous support.
Please pray for our team as we increase our reach to more locations needing help. Please pray for the protection of staff and volunteers who has been preparing the meals, packing relief and distributing it to the communities as Covid19 remains a real threat to the health of everyone.
We THANK you! We hope that you will be blessed beyond your expectations in the coming months even through this difficult season we are all in. Thank you for showing us, and the families we help that there is still HOPE.
Yours sincerely,
Dawn + ROFP Board of Trustees, Staff and Volunteers
It’s 2020! Last year, together with your help, we were able to feed more than a thousand children, serve approximately 20,000 meals and reach 17 communities.
And now we’re glad to share to you that this February we’re looking forward to opening 7 more feeding stations at the following places:
1. Damayang Lagi, Quezon City
2. Libis, Quezon City
3. Bagumbayan, Quezon City (2 locations)
4. Brgy. Tarace, San Carlos City, Pangasinan
5. Sitio Dumpsite, Antipolo, Rizal (We're opening a new Project Baon feeding station)
6. Paenaan, Antipolo, Rizal
210 more kids will be fed in these stations either once or thrice a week. We’re also glad to inform you that we’re only 10,000 dollars away from our goal. Thank you very much for your continuous support in this project!
In our last quarterly report, we shared about our Tacloban Feeding Station. Now we are happy to tell you that we have 12 more feeding stations in operation! Four of these are in Luzon and eight are in Mindanao.
Luzon. All the four feeding stations in Luzon are outreaches. Outreaches open at least once a week and serve healthy meals and at times fruits too. Just this October, we started serving milk with our meals at all of our feeding stations! A chocolate company partnered with us and provided the milk we serve. They made a campaign called Generosity Bars. The Generosity Bars are chocolate bars from which the milk was removed and given to the kids.
Every Saturday, the four feeding stations feed kids who are mostly from poor families or slum areas. The Sta. Lucia and Sitio Banaba (both in Antipolo City) feeding stations and the Cubao feeding station (in Quezon City) all feed 30 kids weekly. The Sitio Dumpsite feeding station (in Antipolo) which was closed from March to August reopened in September. It serves 100 kids. Beyond feeding children, the outreaches also engage them in fun activities like music, games, and storytelling.
Mindanao. In Mindanao, we have seven outreaches and one Project Baon. These are the outreaches in Agusan Del Sur and the number of kids they serve:
Brgy. Manat also operates a Project Baon that serves 30 kids three times a week. This feeding program has a duration of three months and the weight of children is monitored. We hope to bring you the kids' progress in this station in our next report.
All in all, we are serving 450 kids in these 12 new feeding stations. All of these are possible through your generous donations. Thank you.
