School year 2021-2022 started late again for all public schools in the Philippines, starting its 2nd year of Distance Learning last September 13, 2021. Last August and September with the help of a corporate partner, we launched and implemented a Feeding Program at the height of the pandemic, when our country recorded the highest number of covid cases, vaccines were not yet fully implemented, and the whole of the National Capital Region (NCR) was in a community quarantine. It could've been the worst timing to implement a Nationwide Feeding program due to heightened travel restrictions, but it was a time when Filipino kids in poor communities are most needing help from organizations like us.
Nevertheless, our amazing staff and volunteers carried through and provided over 100,000 freshly cooked breakfast and lunch meals to 870 children daily for 60 Days. This was a Nationwide effort together with the Local Government Units, Health centers and partner Civic organizations. We believe that through this experience, the ROFP team is now stronger than ever to widen our reach to feed and nourish more children through all your support. The Photos below are some of snap shots of this program.
With still 150 remaining school days, we hope to start with the next batch of beneficiaries on January 10, 2021. This time, our Goal is to have at least 1,000 kids in #ProjectBaon for 120 days. We are inspired by the efforts of several individuals and groups within the GlobalGiving platform helping us to achieve this Goal.
One of this is the GlobalGiving PledgeToTri Fundraiser, which has now raised over $17,000 in pledges out of their $25,000 goal! This funding will go to support 150 beneficiaries for 120 days!
The communities that are yet to complete the funding for all of its beneficiaries for the January #ProjectBaon are as follows :
1. Barangay Cawit (Bajao Community), Zamboanga City - 100 kids
2. Barangay Talisayan, Zamboanga City- 90 kids
3. Barangay Ayala, Zamboanga City- 80 kids
4. Barangay San Luis Antipolo - 200 kids
5. Barangay Bagumbayan Quezon City - 50 kids
6. Barangay Libis Quezon City - 50 kids
7. Barangay Acereda, Bobon Samar - 100 kids
Even with Covid 19 cases easing out, an estimate 4.2million Filipino families still faces hunger daily, most of which are still recovering from the lockdowns in the past months and unemployment.
Allow us to end this report and project appeal, with an encouragement from Diego Navarro, one of our donors in the GlobalGiving Fundraiser : "I am where I am today because of my education and a little bit of luck. Growing up, I was fortunate to regularly have baon and not get distracted by hunger while solving fractions in Math class. Imagine what these kids can accomplish if sufficiently nourished during their formative years. Future leaders will come from this generation and we ought to provide a platform that allows them to be successful. I believe it all starts with providing a basic necessity - nutrition"- Diego
Thank you all so much for your support on the #ProjectBaon School Meals Program since 2015! Together we can continue to FEED, NOURISH, EMPOWER!
