Parents and Children at Angono Feeding Station
Parents and Children at Angono Feeding Station

Dear Friends and Partners,

We are excited to tell you of what is happening at our different feeding stations.

  • Angono Feeding Station - A new feeding station was launched last November 7, 2016. This was made possible through the partnership of Seeing the Dawn Christian Ministry. 30 kidshave been screened and selected  to be part of this program.
  • Pinesville Feeding Station - Feeding program was concluded last November 18, 2016. About 80% of the beneficiaris increased in weight. According to parents,  their children  are no longer picky eaters especially when vegetables are served. They have also have good appetite nowadays.
  • Pangasinan Feeding Station - the team of Reach Out Feed Philippines conducted a Parenting Seminar to 20 parents. In addition, Alpha Gallo, one of our coordinators taught parents on how to prepare healthy, nutritous and budget friendly meals. A collection of healthy and economical recipe booklet was provided so that parents can add a twist to their usual meal.
  • Aside from daily feeding program, 80 kids from 3 different locations (Sta. Cruz Zambales, Brgy Dolores Taytay and Presentacion, Camarines Sur) are provided with weekly meals.

Through your partnership with us we were able to serve 3,499 nutritious meals to 205 Filipino children.

There are more children to be reached, nourished and empowered. Friends and partners, we are so thankful for all your contribution in this advocacy.

Here's a testimony of one of our staff members, of the impact of the feeding program to our beneficiaries and to their families

As I visit different stations, these are some of the things I have observed

Besides the food that we serve to  beneficiaries, these children have developed admirable characters such as

Discipline- once they arrive at the feeding stations, they already know where they have to sit or where their assigned tables are. In Pinesville, kids know that every week they have to be weighed and that they need to fall in line and wait for their turn before they could get inside the station.

Leadership -  In Pangasinan, each table has a team leader, each team leader knows that every after meal he/she has to gather all the lunch boxes of his/her team and bring them to washing area. Isn't it great?!

Volunteerism – Before, volunteer staff says grace before kids can eat, but now, kids themselves volunteer to bless the food.

I’ve asked several kids why they regularly come to our stations. I was surprised with their answer. Not only do they come for food, but because  they  are taught/ they learn something, thay are valued.  Parents testified that their children have shown improvements not only in weight but  in academics and behavior  as well .  #projectbaon is beyond serving meals,  it’s ensuring that kids are aided to reach their potential.

Ronald & Rommel
Ronald & Rommel

Brothers Ronald and Rommel , are two of the thirty (30) beneficiaries of the #ProjectBaon program launched in Barangay Tarece, San Carlos City Pangasinan last June.

Here’s a report from our Program Coordinator direct from the field: (See English translation below)

“Ronald is the youngest of 3 kids. His dad is a farmer and only gets an income in times of harvest. His mom is a housewife and weaves fruit baskets made of bamboo strips to help out with their family expenses. Providing the daily school meals or baon is one major difficulty of his parents in sending him and his siblings to school everyday.

Ronald is undernourished due to the food usually served in their household. Their daily meal would usually consist of instant noodles and rice OR rice and dried fish – that is all his parents can afford. Worst is that during the rainy season, his parents would almost have zero income for weeks and months, as there are no bamboo strips available to make the fruit baskets, and they would wait for months for the next harvest time.

These are also the times when Ronald and his siblings would eat less than 3x a day.

The parents of Ronald and Rommel is thankful that they are now a beneficiary of Reach Out and Feed Philippines. Their weight has increased in the last two months of being part of the program. They are improving in their academics as well in school!”

-Xenia Vergara-Diez, Program Coordinator,
Barangay Tarece, San Carlos City Pangasinan

We are pleased to report that since the start of school year 2016-2017 last June, Reach Out and Feed Philippines have already launched 3 full time Feeding locations and 2 Outreach locations as follows:

List of Full time feeding locations, with daily provision of school meals from Monday-Friday
1. Barangay Tarece, Pangasinan with 30 beneficiaries
2. Taytay Elementary School with 40 beneficiaries
3. Pinesville, Taytay Rizal with 30 kids

List of Outreach locations, Once a week feeding activity. (Awaiting funding to convert to full time feeding locations)
1. Bicol Adjangao with 40 beneficiaries
2. Barangay Dolores Taytay Rizal with 30 beneficiaries

The team would love to increase the beneficiaries per location as we receive sufficient funding. Moreover, Five more feeding locations with qualified beneficiaries are still lined up, awaiting funding to launch.

No help is small when put together, we can all create a lasting impact in the lives of these Filipino children and give them a better chance for the future.  We do seek your support as we complete the funding this school year to complete the target number of Feeding locations.

Again, our big thanks to all of you, our friends and partners in this advocacy as we all make a contribution in fighting malnutrition in the Philippines - one child at a time

Dear Friends and Partners,

The month of March marked the end of the school year in the Philippines, and #ProjectBaon -  a daily feeding program that provides school meals to undernourished students, officially ended its first year of implementation last March 11, 2016. The team is now preparing and raising funds for #ProjectBaon 2016-2017.

To recap, here are just some of the highlights of #ProjectBaon for school year 2015-2016, since we started in November 2015, together, we have helped:

  • 2 schools and 120 undernourished public school students,
  • We have served a total of 5,233 nutritious school meals by the end of the program,
  • 87% of the beneficiaries, those who regularly attended the program, had a significant improvement in their overall health in terms of -weight, and immune system. There were no recorded absences from school and no recorded sickness while they were enrolled in the program!

Aside from the school-based feeding program, we have also conducted outreach feeding activities in poor communities in the country.  The team used these outreach feeding activities to get to know the beneficiaries and their parents, establish relationship, know more about the needs of the community and prepare for a daily feeding program once funding is ready.  These outreach activities have helped:

  • 330+ kids
  • We have served 1,800+ meals
  • in 5 different communities!

Overall, your generous giving to this project has reached out to 450 Filipino kids and together we have served  over 7,000 nutritious meals, in 7 different locations!

For the months of March, April and May 2016, the program implementation team, headed by Nurse Nordeth Semillano and program coordinator Alpha Gallo, conducted several feeding outreach activities to start the screening of new beneficiaries for the coming school year of 2016-2017.  Here are some of the highlights:

March 10, 2016: Parents Forum : The team organized a forum with the parents of our beneficiaries at Taytay Elementary School. With almost 3 months of summer vacation and no provision of meals from the #ProjectBaon program, we are concerned that our efforts might go to waste if we don’t educate the parents on providing the right meals for their kids.

The team conducted a nutrition seminar for the parents and a cooking demo on how to prepare meals that is nutritious and at the same time their  kids will enjoy. We have also provided each parent with enough supply of Vitameal, the meal formula that we use to fortify the rice and ensure that they get the nutrients they need every day.

March 15 – Medical and Dental check-up : The team, together with our partner – Seeing the Dawn Christian Ministry conducted a Medical and Dental check up for all beneficiaries before the summer vacation.

March 24, 2016 –Barangay Tarece, San Carlos City Pangasinan Outreach

Brgy. Tarece is one of the 82 barangays in San Carlos City. It is a poor community where people make a living mostly from planting corn and making baskets called “Kaing” and this is why most of the kids in this community barely eats 3x in a day, at times , only once in a day.

Brgy. Tarece , San Carlos City Pangasinan will be one of our full time Feeding Stations  this coming school year and we have so far screened 35 kids who will be enrolled in the program. More kids are lined-up depending on the funds available.

March 25, 2016.  – Sta. Cruz Zambales Outreach. The team reached out to 60 kids in Sta. Cruz Zambales where aside from providing meals, the team also interacted with the kids through storytelling, games and singing songs together. We are also hoping to establish a full time feeding station in this area.

April 1, 2016: Baras Rizal Outreach. The team fed 80 kids and provided a bag each of the vitameal formula for each family which is good for 30 days.   This community is a relocation site for families who were victims of natural and man-made calamities.

Weekly Feeding Outreach at Pinesville Taytay Rizal : Every Saturday, the team would feed about 40-60 kids in this community. This area is a community with about 1,000 families living mostly in shanties and make-shift houses, most families make a living here as workers in a nearby garments factory and construction site.

We still have more stories to tell, but this report is getting long :) But we really hope that you will all get a picture of the condition of the kids you are helping here in the Philippines through Reach Out and Feed Philippines and through our programs.  When you get to know their parents, they are also kind and loving people, wanting the best for their kids, just as any parent would want.  The kids, they are in a state of helplessness, we are talking about 4, 5 and 6 year olds not knowing where they will get their next meal.

But thanks to you, they will have a better chance in life and we can all take a stand to re-shape their future!  We are all praying to complete the remaining target fund of $30,000 to completely fund all five Feeding stations (or more) this coming school year of 2016-2017. Will you help us reach this goal?

We thank you all  so much for trusting us, and we really hope to work long term with you in the fight against hunger and malnutrition in the Philippines.

Thank you again and may God richly bless you and your family!

With gratitude on behalf of the whole team,
Dawn Marie F. Cabigon

To our Dear Partners,

On behalf of all of us at Reach Out and Feed Philippines Inc., and all the beneficiaries, we would like to thank you for your continuous support to #ProjectBaon.

We have been working together on this project now for three months, and since we started in November 2015, together, we have helped:

  • 2 schools and 120 undernourished kids,
  • We have served a total of 4,693 nutritious school meals,
  • 87% of the beneficiaries, those who regularly attended the program, had a significant improvement in their overall health in terms of -weight, and immune system. There were no recorded absences from school and no recorded sickness while they were enrolled in the program. Wow!

For your reference, please see attached reports for these two schools and some highlights below :

Taytay Elementary School

#ProjectBaon started at Taytay Elementary School last November 16, 2015, together with our implementing partner, “Seeing the Dawn Christian Ministry”.  Sixty (60) students were screened and selected to be a part of the program. Since November, these 60 kids have been receiving their daily meal, a lunch with fortified rice, meat, vegetables and fruits.

The results were encouraging. On the first 20 days, a teacher reported to us that the kids enrolled in the program were noticeably more active in school. How can they not be? As you can see in the report, 100% of the kids had increased  their weight, ranging from  1kg,  and some of up to a  5kg increase in weight.

As we progressed in the program, and as our team started introducing more vegetables in the menu, there were a few kids though who tends to be picky in what they eat.  You may noticed we have marked 6 kids who  were picky eaters and who had decreased their weight at the end of 40 days.

Overall, 51 out of the 60 beneficiaries had an overall improvement in their health, in terms of weight, height and stronger immune system. The team have also invited a doctor to conduct a health check-up on all beneficiaries.  We will keep you posted on the results.

Silahis ng Katarungan Elementary School, Paco Manila

#ProjectBaon started at Silahis ng Katarungan Elementary School last January 4, 2016. Sixty (60) students were screened and selected to be a part of the program. The program was intended to run until the end of the school year, however, the team was informed on its  3rd week of implementation that we are not allowed to use any of the photos or videos taken to document our feeding activities in the school. As this is a school policy, we had to sadly terminate the project, and we ended it last January 29, 2016.

As you can see in the report, the 20-day results were really encouraging, and the team is finding ways to still serve the kids in Paco Manila outside of the school. Thus, last February 19, 2016, the team partnered with Youth With a Mission (YWAM) Manila, to reach out to indigent and homeless kids who are often seen at the Paco Market. 70 kids initially participated in the feeding activity, which we hope to also convert into a daily feeding activity through a community based program.

Community-Based Outreach Programs

Aside from school based feeding programs, the team have also started three outreach activities in poor communities, that with   enough funding, we are hoping and praying to turn into full time Feeding locations.

These are the following :

  • Baras Antipolo Rizal, 60 kids, 720 meals served to date
  • Pinesville Taytay Rizal, 60 kids, 480 meals served to date
  • Paco Manila, 70 to 80 kids, 160 meals served to date

Feeding activities in the above locations are currently done once a week. The team is using these weekly gatherings to get to know the beneficiaries and their parents, establish relationship, know more about the needs of the community and prepare for a daily feeding program once funding is ready.

To summarize, in 3 months, together we have :

  • Reached out to 320 undernourished kids,
  • Served a total of 6,053 nutritious meals
  • In 5 different locations !!!

You may think that your contribution is small, but together, it is creating a massive impact in re-shaping the future of 320 kids. As we start this 2016, we also wish to ask if you would consider signing up for a Monthly Donation for as low as $12 a month?

Your regular monthly support will help us plan for the whole year ahead  and enable the Feed Philippines team to prepare and ensure the consistent provision of hot and nutritious meals to all  beneficiaries.

Again, we thank you so much for trusting us, and we really hope to work long term with you in the fight against hunger and malnutrition in the Philippines.

Thank you again and may God richly bless you and your family!

With gratitude on behalf of the whole team,
Dawn Marie F. Cabigon
