Description of Project and Implementation
Majority of Indian population still lives in villages and good percentage of them are living in below poverty line. Good facilities of education and health is either not available or they cannot afford expenses needed to get these facilities and thus less privileged children normally remains deprived of their needs. Monthly income of their parents is less than their minimum requirements. To augment their family income, BDP School provides along with their main project (To Provide Value Added Education to less privileged) provides courses for learning money generating skills, by practising such skills students can generate some money and add to their family income for better living and to meet the expenses needed for good education and health.
BDP School gives training in tailoring to each girl child of 5th to 8th standard on regular basis. Such courses are added in their main curriculum of studies. Tailoring, Stitching, Embroidery on all types of garments are taught by the special teachers on specific machines and manually. Along with the theoretical teaching more emphasis is given on practical training, by using such skills after school hours in the time available to them they stitch clothes of villagers and uniforms of school children and earn money.
Special extra classes are also held daily in the school after school hours to give training in tailoring, stitching and embroidery etc. to the family members of students without any charge. They learn the skills and practice them under the supervision of special teachers. At their homes in the time available to them they stitch garments of villagers, school uniforms and also they take contract jobs from export houses and companies who require garments in bulk. The female child helps them in tailoring and male child in other administrative/ commercial activities such as maintaining the accounts, collecting the money, delivery of goods to the customers etc. Thus the whole family is working together to earn more money other than their regular income.
Result of the Project
About 100 female students and 75 female members of their families learned the skills of tailoring, stitching and embroidery. They use these techniques to stitch garments of villagers, school uniforms, execute contract orders. By doing this, the money generated is added to their family income which improves their living standards and to meet education and health expenses of their children.
Importance of Project
In villages the parents to augment their income take their children along with them to work in the fields. Children remain absent from the school and their studies suffer. All this add to the negative factors in the child’s personality. To avoid this, project to teach money generating skills such as tailoring training, stitching embroidery for female students and their family members is opened in BDP School. Learning such skills and practising at home leads to generation of income and avoid child labour in fields. The child does not miss their school and their studies do not suffer.

They further appreciated that their children have not to work as child labour. One such family of Ranjeeta Devi of village Barauli who was working in fields is now stitching clothes at home and earning Rs 2000/month and her daughter suman after getting tailoring training helping her mother in stitching clothes of customers.
Another beneficiary Radha who has learned tailoring and have shown good performance during the course of training has opted to take up a job in BDP School to teach other female students. She is devoted to her work and is giving good results. BDP school management is satisfied by her work.
