Necessity of Girl Education in Rural India

By K.M. Paliwal | Secretary

Necessity of Girl Child Education in Rural India
Necessity of Girl Child Education in Rural India

It has been felt in all over the world forums that the girl child education starting from primary level is a necessity for development of the countries. It is more applicable to under develop and developing countries.

India being a developing country has realized this fact and has starting taking steps in this direction at the government, semi govt. and private organization levels. Public private participation is playing an important role to fulfill this mission. Our NGO Psycho Educational Society is also working in this direction and is taking concrete steps by educating the girl child in their programs being conducted at BDP School Barauli, Block Baldev, District Mathura U.P. India.

To achieve the results, a lot of hurdles come in the way because of the parent’s income level and lack of basic education. For this a special program has been conducted as adult education program in rural India for rural population in which the counseling to the parents both male and female who attended the program was done and they were told the importance of the girl child education for the future of the family as well as the individual. It was further explained that without education of the girl child the development of their villages is not possible which is affecting their living standards. When such a convincing situation was created the parents agreed to send their girl child to the school along with their male child who were already coming for education in the school. The percentage of the girl child which was earlier 30-35 % increases to 55% as enrolled in the academic session 2014-15 at BDP School Barauli, Block Baldev, District Mathura U.P. India in its educational programs. This is evident from the table attached.

The major problem in the rural areas is that the people are poor and mostly living in BPL category they prefer to take their children to the fields where they are working, to earn extra daily wages from this practice their children suffers and remain deprived of education and their career is blocked They also give the last preference for the girl child education. To overcome such situation while conducting the program we council the parents and also assure them to meet the girl child educational expenses. This has helped in getting more girl child enrolled in the program for education.

For over all development of the students personality and to make the educational programs useful and beneficial PES gives the value added education by combining formal and informal education training programs which trains them to earn extra money which adds to their family income and ultimately improve their standard of living.

To make the students conversant with the Indian culture, ethics and knowledge of national and international events we motivate them to participate in the various functions, programs and events conducted in the school. Such education increases the general knowledge and leadership qualities along with participation habits.

The Husband late Hari Om of Smt. Sunita died in premature death because of illness and no earning member was left in the family. They had three children who were studying in BDP School and suddenly they stop coming to school because their mother could not afford educational expenses and they start going along with their mother as child labor. The school management when came to know this situation they adopted the three children and give them assurance for free education in the school. Thus the children of Smt. Sunita were saved from going to child labor and started their education in the school again.
