As we embark on our 6th year, Education Through Music-Los Angeles expands to serve over 4,000 children with in-school music education, working with the Los Angeles, Burbank, and Compton Unified School Districts. This past spring, Education Through Music-LA held our inaugural Music Unites the World Festival which brought together music students from all of our partner schools - playing and singing in ensemble under the guidance of special guest artists: celebrated teacher Reggie Andrews (former students include Rickey MInor, Tyrese Gibson, et al.), Harry Gregson Williams (composer, Shrek), Lisbeth Scott (vocalist, Chronicles of Narnia, Avatar), and Misha Shtangrud (Colburn). Our students also shined brightly in their end of the year spring concerts, performing for their families and school communities.
This summer, Education Through Music-LA students were showcased on Oxygen’s The Glee Project. They worked, recorded, and performed with the top four Glee Project winners, creating a music video of My Chemical Romance’s Sing. Liam, one ETM-LA student who participated, shared, “I will keep playing instruments and sing till I physically can’t anymore…because music is my dream.”
ETM-LA also got a special visit from Miranda Cosgrove as part of the Neutrogena Wave for Change campaign with Globalgiving. We are grateful for all of your support and partnership to help Los Angeles children receive quality music education - and a brighter future!
