ETM-LA serves over 15,000 disadvantaged students with weekly, yearlong music classes at no cost. We provide music teachers, instruments, and guidance for schools to sustain the program
Research shows that when music instruction is included as part of the core curriculum, children show vast improvement in their reading, writing, mathematical, and reasoning skills. Yet thousands of low-income children are deprived of an education that includes music. California students lag behind national averages in arts instruction-up to 50% less in music instruction at the elementary level. This project will benefit 667 children of the approximate 15,000 students we serve annually.
This project forms long-term school partnerships to provide weekly, sequential music instruction for every child. ETM-LA trains and mentors professional musicians and academic teachers, and provides management guidance for principals.
Education Through Music-LA empowers low-income kids through quality music instruction as part of a well-rounded education. Students demonstrate personal, academic, and creative growth, and the arts are fostered in the community.
