Help Orphan Puppies August 2012 Update

We thought that for this report we would share one of our volunteer's stories about a very special dog, Shilo:

"So, let me tell you about Shilo. The minute I saw his sweet little face with his crooked ears I knew I had to save him.

We knew when we saved him that he was deaf. We knew he was heart worm positive.  We knew he had been abandoned and was scared.
But when he arrived, he was so much more then we expected. Within a few hours he looked around the house and I knew he felt safe, maybe  for the first time ever. He was sweet, playful, and eagerly gave everyone kisses. He loved belly rubs and sleeping under the covers. He was my perfect little man - my perfect gentleman, my friend.
The vet told us his heart was slightly enlarged, but he had a good chance. We went ahead and did every treatment option possible. Despite our best efforts, Shilo passed away on Easter Sunday.
In the few weeks that Shilo spent with us, I know he felt safe and loved. In return, we were touched by this wonderful boy who brought us so much joy. He taught us about trust and forgiveness.
Shilo changed my life - I am a better person because of him. I feel at peace knowing he was loved - he was happy - he belonged.
Isn't that what any of us can hope for? Thank you for letting me share my story. Thank you to everyone who supports us. Without you we would not be able to save - and be saved by - these wonderful dogs. Because of you, Shilo found his way home."
