We were hoping for a slower summer but that has definitely not been the case! We took in 12 puppies in July alone, several from high kill shelters, and several local dogs and puppies, including 4 via the local veterinary ER.
Sadly, of the 4 puppies that arrived via the local ER, only Barley survived. Our poor Barley was attacked by another dog and Barley's owners were unable to care for him. Thankfully the staff explored options other than euthansia and contacted us. Barley spent several nights at the ER and at the specialist's office in order to stabilize his condition and surgically repair one of the major fractures. He now goes in 2-3 times per week for bandage changes, wound checks, and follow up films to ensure that he is healing correctly.
With so many urgent cases, our Special Needs Fund has been depleted and we are actively working to replenish this fund so that we can continue to accept special needs cases into our program.
Some of the puppies we accepted from the high kill shelters have also required several follow up veterinary visits, from routine visits to more urgent visits for different health concerns.
We work hard to make sure that the dogs we accept into our program receive the best possible care. Without your support, this would not be possible.
If you are a continued supporter, we sincerely thank you for your continued support. We hope you see how vital your support is to our efforts. If you are a new supporter, please visit our social media sites on Facebook and Instagram, where we post daily updates. We also have a website, www.helporphanpuppies.org, where you can learn more about us.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly.
Thank you and we hope you enjoy the remainder of the summer.
Sincerely,
Help Orphan Puppies
