Nursing moms and more! December 2014

We cannot believe 2014 is drawing to a close! Everyone is preparing for the holidays but unfortunately the dogs in need do not break for the holidays. In November we were contacted about 2 pregnant dogs that were at risk of being euthanized due to lack of space as the shelter had taken in numerous pregnant dogs in a matter of days. We quickly shuffled puppies around and were able to save both mothers! Lyla blessed us with 6 babies, as did Clara but we sadly lost one after 9 days. Both moms arrived skin and bones, clearly malnourished for an extended period of time. These two moms have blossomed in our care, both proving how a scared and fearful dog consisting of nothing but skin and bones can flourish into a happy and loving dog. In addition to Clara and Lyla and their babies, we continue to have several dogs residing with our behaviorist for extensive rehabilitation.
We cannot thank you enough for your continued support of us and our cause. We continue to strive to rescue so many unwanted pets while accepting the challenge of finding them loving forever homes. None of which we could accomplish without generous donations from so many of you.

September Update

This summer has been very busy for us - puppy season seemed to start early and does not appear to be slowing down. We took in two nursing mothers at once - a record for us. The first mom, Abby, came to us with 8 nursing babies, 2 weeks old, plus a heartworm positive diagnosis. The second mom, Luna, came to us with 4 nursing babies, only 4 days old. Thankfully all the babies survived but not without numerous bumps in the road. At 3 weeks of age we determined that one of Abby's babies, Angie, was not developing at the same rate as her siblings. A visit to our specialist resulted with a neurological impairment diagnosis. Two weeks later our primary veterinarian determined that Abby and her babies all had sarcoptic mange - highly contagious to humans and dogs alike, as the foster mom (me!) quickly discovered. Thankfully everyone has been treated, humans and dogs alike, and are on the road to recovery. Abby will be starting heartworm treatment after she is spayed and Angie is receiving daily therapy. Luna and her babies thankfully have been developing and growing without any issues!
Through it all we are so grateful for everyone's support. Through your generous donations, we have been able to continue to save lives like these moms and their babies. We continue to thank you and hope that you will continue to support our efforts.

It has been a busy 7 weeks for us! At the beginning of April we were contacted about a pregnant dog that was scheduled to be put to sleep. We immediately took her into our program! On April 13th Cassie went into labor at 1 AM and easily delivered 5 puppies. After 4 hours we knew something was not right and rushed her to the Emergency Hospital that Sunday afternoon. Sadly one of the babies did not make it but she safely delivered 2 more babies while we were at the hospital. Although we are struggling with funding, we continue to take dogs like Cassie into our program, knowing that without us there are no other options for dogs like her. People sometimes apologize when donating to us, voicing that they wish they could donate more to our small rescue. We always convey how grateful we are for even one dollar, as 100% of our donations go to saving dogs like Cassie and her babies. We continue to be grateful for everyone's support, especially knowing that without people like you, we would not be able to do what we do.
