Your help is invaluable!

By Debra Cockrell, Elena V., Anastasia S. | Diema's Dream Team

Dear Friends!

We thank you for your support of our project on Global Giving! Since the beginning of the project, 101 people have donated $ 12,111! With your help, the lives of 100 children with severe mental and physical development has been steadily improving!

New Advances in Elatma
In Elatma`s orphanage (Ryazan region) specialists continue to work for the social adaptation and rehabilitation of children. There are positive results in the development in absolutely every child, in spite of severe handicaps!

For example, Andrew G. has Cerebral Palsy, vision problems and other disabilities but he has learned how to play with other children, learned to be patient and wait for his turn in games and follow the rules. He has learned to draw a circle and can choose geometric shapes and paste them into the correct holes. He has also learned to browse a book with the usual thin pages which is not so easy for a child with severe muscle spasticity in his hands.

Dogs help children
In the autumn, we resumed the dog-therapy sessions in Orphanage 8 in Moscow.

Communication with dogs is strongest sensory load for children, resulting in:
• reduced spasticity
• muscles relax
• improves coordination
• children become more contact and open to communication

During the exercise when children lay their head lay on the dog, all the children visible show the relaxation of neck and shoulder muscles, thereby improving blood flow to the brain. For children with disabilities this is especially important.

During the exercise, the child begins to call the dog by name, is able to walk the dog on a leash, run or crawl with the dog and plays trying to take a toy from the dog. At this point, the child is developing acumen, fine motor skills, working and improving many muscles. Children become more active and learn to trust the dogs - the dogs very skillfully and subtly help the child to take the initiative to move and help them to learn new movements. The dogs are the best teachers and very loving!

As shown in the pictures, you can see the success of the children!

ALL of these advances in the development of these children have been made possible thanks to your support! Together, we can make their lives better!

But the children need consistent rehabilitation! We need to raise another $37,934 – tell your friends about project to further support the development of these children!
