18 new life-skills of Elatma`s children!

By Anastasiya Starobykhovslaya | Program Manager

Dear friend!

We sincerely thank you for your support of our project on the GlobalGiving!

In Elatma`s orphanage (Ryazan region) only in January-February this year specialists conducted 630 lessons with 18 children with severe developmental disorders.

Sessions contribute to the formation of the most important life skills from the areas of self-service, movement, socialization, and others. So, only in February, work was carried out on 86 skills in general, and children already successfully mastered 18 of them! Behind these figures are the everyday difficult work of specialists and children, their patience and perseverance in the pursuit of success!

For example, Polina L. (name is changed) - she is almost 9 years old. But despite her age and constant success in development, she did not get to clap for a long time. Her tutor applauded whenever she could do what she was working on. And imperceptibly took Polina's hands in hers, so that, clapping together, express joyful emotions from good results and show that the girl is well done. And recently this long work gave a result - Polina involuntarily clapped her hands, rejoicing at the tutor, the skill was acquired!

A lot of work had to be done on the capture of objects with two fingers: large and index. The proceeds came sweets - the girl really liked to take pieces of marshmallows and cookies. And in February she finally mastered this important skill, improving cognitive and motor abilities, on which the quality of life directly depends. Now you can develop this skill further - to put small items in a box.

Anna S. (name is changed) is already 22 years old - do not be surprised, this in itself is a great achievement! Before, when nobody was involved in development with the chidren at all and they were only lying in beds all the time, they just did not live to that age!

Anya recently has grown up very much, put on weight. Recently, she learned from the teacher's help to collect a matreshka from 4 parts, learned to interact with an adult, repeating the movement specialist. Several months with Anya worked on the ability to bend over - with the girl's cerebral palsy and other disorders it is not easy at all. But Anya learned, and even, slightly adhering to anything, raises objects from the floor! Anya loves to play, and now learns to follow a certain order in the game with peers and follow the order.

It is impossible not to say about the visual use of skills in the life of Andrei F. (name is changed).  In connection with the repair in the building, the boy was temporarily transferred to another building of orphanage, and there he saw the ladder for the first time. On it he would have to rise and descend daily, it was necessary to urgently teach him this. More than three weeks of training with the tutor, before the boy felt confident on the steps. And now he is already climbing the stairs himself, and goes down himself, but the adult is still near.

In the diagnosis of Andrei, in addition to cerebral palsy, disinhibited behavior with autistic syndrome and autoaggression. It is very difficult for him to be among new people, in a new environment, moreover, to eat in such conditions. But in a new building this is inevitable. The tutor began urgently to work out with him this new conditions - and Andrew gradually mastered, already getting used to unfamiliar children. Without individual work with a specialist, this would be impossible at all.

All these children have very serious intellectual and physical disabilities, each has its own big "bouquet" ... But despite this, each of them has greatly advanced in development. The "Portage" method allows you to take into account the features and abilities of each child. And with the patience of teachers and their faith in each child sooner or later comes the long-awaited victory!

We wholeheartedly thank our philanthropists for supporting these sessions - without you the development of children would be impossible!

We cordially thank you for your support of our children - without you, their development would not be possible!

Stay with us, making donations and telling your friends about us – children very needs your support!
