Closing the Cycle - And Opening New Paths to Justice

By Yasmina | Project Leader

With your support, the final session of the Gaziantep cycle was successfully completed with the same group of 27 women — family members of detainees and missing persons.

This closing session focused on practical legal action. Participants were guided step by step through the process of registering the death of a missing person under Syrian law, helping them understand how to move forward independently without the heavy financial burden of relying on legal intermediaries.

Women left the session with clear knowledge of:

  • Which documents are required
  • Where cases should be filed
  • What legal rights remain protected throughout the process

As in previous sessions, the discussion quickly expanded into urgent real-life concerns: property ownership, the legal status of children returning to Syria, and the many unresolved legal challenges displacement continues to create.

The engagement was powerful. The questions were thoughtful. And the need for accessible legal support was undeniable.

At the end of the session, surveys were collected from all participants — adding 50 more voices to the growing body of research that will shape a comprehensive report on the legal needs of displaced Syrian women across all 34 sessions.

Because of your support, awareness is turning into action — and women are gaining the tools to defend their rights with confidence and dignity.

Thank you for helping justice reach those who need it most.

With gratitude,
