Thank you for supporting From Absence to Presence. Your contributions helped Syrian women whose loved ones were forcibly disappeared get clear information about the legal questions they face every day.
On 19 October, women in Gaziantepe met in person for our first legal literacy session, while participants in Sanlurfa joined online. In plain language, the session covered the rights and protections available to Syrian women in Türkiye, how to access them, and how to obtain or correct essential documents such as birth and marriage records.
One of the most pressing questions was what a woman can do when her husband is missing and she needs to make decisions for her children. Participants brought real situations to the discussion, from custody and guardianship to difficulties with everyday paperwork. Several learned about rights they hadn’t known they had.
Thank you for helping create a space where these women could ask questions about their own circumstances and better understand the options available to them and their families.
